I prefer just blood. Like how in COD4 when you snipe some one the wall behind them will have a blood splatter and a bullet hole. Sometimes gore makes it more fun and lets out more steam, but other times its just bloody annoying.

Well, it's not completely necessary, but it helps immerse you in the experience if done well. I'm not saying Bioshock needed more gore or Fallout needed less. Do it however you do it and queasy players can just avoid those games or turn on the maturity filter (Gears of War). I do feel that Ninja Gaiden Sigma might have lost a little of its impact for almost completely removing blood, but it doesn't irk me that badly.

yeah the gore ads a bit to the game
Said the man with the Gear's logo for his avatar XD

Anyway on topic. Gore is fine and all, but it does bog the game down when used wayyyy to much. Like people exploding and body parts go everywhere. It's just terrible.
whats wrong with my avatar im a gear fan but i havent played in a year but if you want i can change it

Oh, yeah.
Totally.

I remember, the last time I shot someone in the head with a pistol that was a few hundred years old, their head exploded.

Yeah.
That happened.

I don't mind gore.
It makes killing all the more fun.

Probably laziness or unwillingness, incidentally.
I don't mind it, but honestly the first Time I played Fallout 3, I remember shooting someone in the head with a BB gun and their head just flew all over Springvale school.

As much as it should have made me react too much, my first response was, "Holy Shit!"

Probably because over-the-top gore is considered tasteless. Gore should be in games for realism, but it should be kept to a realistic minimum, like Halo 3.
Halo 3 is a realistic minimum? If I shoot a human in that game with a rocket launcher designed to take down tanks he is still in one piece! Realistic would involve large exit wounds, and dismemberment from .50 cal and above bullets, and explosives.
I was talking about when people are shot by guns. Most games that have blood in them over do it, such as Bioshock's hospital area.
I don't think Bioshock overdid the gore. It's amazing how much someone can bleed after being shot/stabbed.

I always remember the hospital level as having blood on everything, no matter what or where it was. And the floors had huge pools of blood on them with no signs of corpses that the blood might have come from.

I agree that there should be gore in games,But I beleive that the corpses aren't properly damaged because of tech limitations in systems.
Kratos is getting some funky new tech to fix that.

COD WAW is the best example I can think of that had pretty realistic violence in it. It's such a humiliation to have your legs blown off by bouncing betties...

It should be implemented to add to the experience and the atmosphere, not just so that it'll be "cool" or to appeal to the younger customers. Because it's mostly them who are prone to get fooled to buy a game due to gore, right?

A game doesn't have to have highly detailed or any gore to be good, but if implemented well it could really help with a gritty setting. Apparently TF2 is "gory", after 500+ hours of TF2 I don't even notice it (actually stopped noticing it a few hundred hours ago). There's gore, but it isn't going to give people nightmares and make kids scream (at least, it shouldn't).

Some games need more gore and screaming in pain, such as STALKER, Fallout, the Total War series, Red Orchestra etc.

I don't have a problem with gore when it's appropriate, and honestly I think games should be more realistically gory in order to avoid glamorization of violence. That said, I completely understand why you don't get that kind of gore in video games - it would put a lot of people off, and it takes a lot of time and effort to put into the game.

Fallout 3's gore all looked the same, and got boring after a while.
Still, those critical headshots in VATS *shivers*. It never stops being satisfying.
At the same time I have to agree with MaxTheReaper. Human heads do NOT explode when you fire low caliber rounds at them with ANY weapon.

If I like gore or not depends on the quality of the gore, how much it is, and what kind of game it is in. If it is in a game that strives to be realistic I only want realistic looking gore in realistic amounts.
I'm in the wasteland and I see a seemingly abandoned trailer park. I walk along side a trailer and here two raiders conversing quietly to one another. I pop out from behind the trailer and take aim at the raider furthest from me. Just as he looks up I fire my rife and the bullet lands right above his right eye and his skull shatters like glass. The other raider turns and draws a knife on me.

I take a few steps back as I pull the bolt back for another shot. I take aim and fire again. The bullet struck low as I was backing away from the vicious savage. The bullet pierces the lower neck and severs her spine. The force was tremendous as the head pops off the body like a cork on new years eve. I stand back in awe as the body falls limp with the head still in the air. It must have elevated over 80 feet. I kneel down and start loading my rifle full as the head falls where the raiders corpse now lays and rolls under the nearest trailer. I shrug my shoulders and proceed to loot the raider's camp.

I guess that some people like it but you should have the option to turn it off.

I like gore in games. Makes kills more satisying and, in the case of Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3, often hilarious

If it works it is good. But if it is unrealistic, and not deliberately so then it sucks. Comedic gore is good.
