Saw Wolverine got mentioned, really think that should be elaborated on. Combat-wise it's not all that big of a gorefest, even though you do decapitate people and relieve them of their limbs at regular intervals it's no big deal. We've seen that before in other slash'em ups.

What's really impressive about the new Wolverine game is the Wolverine's upper body responds dynamically to damage. You can be ripped apart by bullets until your guts actually show, only for the tissue to regenerate. Hell, you can even be blown apart by bombs so all that's left of you is a pair of legs and arms and a thin thread of badly burnt spine. There were times where I found myself gagging because I just realized I could see an enemy grunt through part of Wolverine's arm. That's not supposed to happen.

I screenshotted this, hopefully it'll be enough to give you a rough idea of what I'm talking about:

One of the first games i played that had gore in it, must have been "Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil". the reason this game got stuck in my mind, was because of one weapon, the "Cerebral Bore". it was soo disgusting back then, but yet so frikking funny at the same time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEKLa373SIw (be sure to watch it in HQ)

Ah, those were the days....

I'd have to agree with the OP. Soldier of Fortune 2 was the most consistently gory game I've played, and still play. Yes games likes Manhunt allow you to graphically kill your foes with random items, but it was all scripted and wasn't constant. SoF 2's Ghoul 2 system allowed you to blow at least 20 different pieces off of an enemies skull and see the resulting bullet paths, multiple small entry wounds and large exit wounds on the opposite side, shotgun or cut off multiple limb segments (feet, shins, calves, hands, forearms, biceps, and the entire arm) and cause their intestines to fall out, causing them to gurgle and desperately pull their bowels back inside. As well as full separation of the abdomen from the legs. Yeah, it'll get my vote hands down. It gains gore points because it's a first person shooter which puts it all front and center, and you're fighting humans, as opposed to god of war where it's very impersonal third person and you're just randomly ripping apart various fictional beasts. It wasn't just specific incidences or certain enemies you could destroy, it was every enemy who ran at you with an MP5 or an AK-47, that's why it gets my vote. Every game before I played it, aside from SoF 1, and every game I've played since has violence that pales in comparison. SoF 2 may not look quite as good, although to me the Quake 3 Arena engine can still pump out some good graphics, as some of the newer games, SoF 2 really captures the violence as a game selling element. Hopefully we'll see Raven develop a Ghoul 3 engine, and take back the series after the debacle that was Soldier of Fortune 3.

Pfff gore, c'mon people we all know damn well that normal, consensual sex is far more dangerous!
On topic, I live in Australia, so I suppose the goriest game I've played would be something like dead space, or maybe a modded version of oblivion.
Hmm I'm also in the land of Aus. The survival horror genre seems to have the goriest games to me... Fallout didn't really seem that bad, but dead space, where the aliens were based off car crash victims... Though the gore is prevalent thoughout so it doesn't make that much of an impact.

Postal 2, had some nice time decapitating a person with a shovel, kicking his head against another till the poor bloke starts to puke, then decapitating HIM only to have puke flying through his neck stump... ah. Where was I?

God of war is an obvious candidate, too. Mortal Kombat for the fatalities... I can't remember any other worth mentioning now. And Fallout 3 is just hilarious. I shoot a guy in the arm to have his head fly 30 meters back?

FEAR can be pretty gory, with limbs exploding and blood everywhere...
Doom 3, too, although that's more about the areas you walk in than what you "dish out" yourself.
But why do you care?
Gore doesn't add anything to a game.

If that is true, I am never buying or playing that game. I am simply boycotting it. It is disrespectful to the dead body of any real person to represent them in a tool for enjoyment, even with changes. I've lost someone in a car crash, and if I ever discovered that this happened to them, my response would be to join or create a political campaign against such things.

>Gears and COD:WAW for limbs and stuff
>The silent hill series for scarring my mind
>The Total War series for all its Laughter..i mean slaughter

EDIT:
I forgot Viking: Battle for Asgard
Cutting enemieis in half/little pieces, crippling giants and fighting Hel...well it IS VIKING!
And a truly satisfying gaming experience

ninja gaiden 2 is pretty gory, what with limbs being chopped off, people getting cut in half and decapitation and the massive excess of blood!

Painkiller was good. You fight a horde of enemies, kill them all by the skin of your teeth, look up and you've just painted the place red. But very few gibs...

Fallout 3. Violent stuff, especially with the perk that makes people explode a fair amount.. But as has been said before, people tend to fall apart in pre-ordained sequences, or just absolutely vaporize for no reason when shot with a rifle.

So I believe the winner has to be Soldier of Fortune 2. I played it a lot, and I still never got used to the fact there were I think 32 sectors of the AI heads, which you could take apart with a knife or a high cal rifle. Seeing the sentries' head explode and leave 60% of it still mangled but intact through a scope was horrifying and satisfying. Knifing people's arms off? Check. Guts? Check...

Manhunt 2, but not because of gore. If you play the Wii version it has you do the motions when you're brutally murdering your enemies with glass shards, crowbars, garden sheers, etc. Not to praise Jack Thompson or anything, but the term "murder simulator" is actually pretty accurate with that game.
This, seriously the uncensored version is bloody. Luckly it has PS2 graphics because of lazy developers.

Dude, what drug game is this and where can I get it?

Going back a lot of games were violent, but no so much "gory." Like games where a person would simply explode when you hit them back in the good old Genesis days.

But these days, I'd have to say that Fallout 3, Dead Space, and World at War are probably some of the goriest games I've ever played, all because of how realistic they are. People have blown up in a lot of games, but Fallout 3 you can basically surgically blow a guy apart. Dead Space proclaims strategic dismemberment a feature, and it clearly revels in it. And World at War is probably the most realistic, the first play through I actually felt a bit uncomfortable a few times. I've played a lot of war games, but none where my shotgun has left a Japanese soldier stumbling in a daze missing an arm. A game like Gears of War 2, sure it's bloody, but at what point do you go from realistic gore to ZOMGGIBLETS!!!1!

But then, there's nothing wrong with giblets.
I accidentally replaced "arm" with "head," so yeah, I meant arm, but the game is Mortal Kombat Armageddon. It's the most recent one before Vs. DC Universe, for PS2 and Xbox (and it's 360 reverse compatible).

And I'm also a fan of giblets.

Team Fortress 2 has a lot of gore, but it doesn't seem that bad by the artistic style, y'know?

Gears of War 2,It is meant to be realistic but the gore in that game is sometimes stupid, and Fallout 3,how does punching someone in the head result in a bloody mess?
