But you run the risk of turning it into a Marvel clone, completely destroying any identity of its own. And I want my DC to be Dark and Serious like Watchmen.
"Dark and Serious"? What does that even mean? If BvS was "dark"--- sorry, "Dark and Serious", then apparently it means immature, idiotic, violent, incoherent, tone-deaf, masculinist, and so on. BvS was a film so catastrophically and offensively banal I actually feel dumberer just
thinking about it...
Snyder's Dark and Serious seems to be a particularly angsty, petulant, teenage boy grimacing, growling, and posturing in the mirror and wishing he could be out killing or destroying things -
bein' all cool and badasss and tortured'n'stuff! - as opposed to doing his homework.
...if you didn't mean to imply Dark and Serious was supposed to be mature or intelligent as well, then apologies - Snyder's work is certainly neither of those things (though I think BvS is some kind of perfect storm of systemic incompetence and tonal anxiety, so it's not entirely Synder's fault).

DC has the irrational fear that making a single joke will ruin their "dark and serious" tone and make audiences say the movie is "for kids."
Which ironically led to the incredibly childish BvS.
I'm no fan of DC's roster at all, but I
do like quality comicbook films (Nolan's first two Batman films are genre classics, even with Begins' weak action finale. and whilst I despise the Fox X-Men continuity, I do really like The Wolverine, its own crappy action finale aside) - and I'd still love to see the film hinted at in the first Man Of Steel teaser; a film seemingly promising hope and inspiration, with a few Malick-esque visual/tonal flourishes.
It's safe to say we never got that - and the DCCU's tottered around aimlessly ever since.
...well, no, in the process of said tottering it vandalised Superman, Batman (
'Derp, 1% chance = World's Greatest Detective! Best Batman is CrossFit Batman! Batman SMASH!'), any chance of a decent cinematic Lex in this continuity, a certain iconic [if apparently not actually very good] Supes' event, Doomsday, a crassly discarded Jimmy Olsen[footnote]To quote the dimwit himself, Snyder: "...we don't have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but
we can have fun with him, right?". That's right, Zacky-boy... having "fun" with a character by unceremoniously executing them. Suddenly BvS's braindead Batman makes sense... [/footnote], and the Justice League's thematic live-action debut (
'Um, here's some clips... with logos we made, because why not?'). That film really was
impressively awful to such a degree that it seems like a conscious act of sabotage.
Fingers crossed for Wonder Woman, but given Snyder's still got a co-story credit, that could end up as another misstep. I don't think Snyder has a credit on the 2019 solo Affleck/Johns Batman film at all (beyond some form of producer role, I assume), so its odds seem even better.
