Errrr... I guess so? I replayed Gothic 2 a while ago and know some who are going through it again for nostalgia purposes. There's probably some going through G3 again too, supposedly very good if you apply all the patches and a mod or two to it.

Mind elaborating a bit? Not entirely sure what you want to achieve here with the question.

Both, actually. Gothic 2 is pretty much my favourite game of all-time, so naturally I replay it every now and again. Gothic 3 is a very fun game when it's all patched up and actually playable, and has one of the most enjoyable game worlds to explore (and well designed too) though it still has issues that are beyond modders abilities to fix, unfortunately.

Funnily enough the first Gothic I played was 3 and I liked it a lot, the main problem is that it was a very repetitive game but the map really felt huge with the different areas and the first missions in each area felt great (liberating the towns and shit), never really cared much for the main quest though but I guess thats part of the game, right?

This is not even a question..Gothic 2 is leaps and bounds better than Gothic 3.

Even Gothic 1 was quite close to Gothic 2 that I find it better than the third installment.

I haven't played it in a long time, because back in 2002-2003 I finished Gothic 2 around 9 times because I had no internet back then.

Gothic 2 isn't one of the best games I've ever played, but it's one of the most surprisingly great games I've ever played. Back then European developers didn't have the respect they subsequently developed. While Gothic 2 had alien sensibilities compared to games produced by Japanese or American developers it was a wonderful breath of fresh air, just as The Witcher series would be several years later. Part of the reason for the success of The Witcher series was the cultural groundwork laid by the Gothic series.

What a coincidence, I just beat Gothic 1 this morning and I'm planning to beat Gothic 2 sometime next week. Gothic 1 and 2 are games that still hold up, and I consider Gothic 2 as my favorite RPG ever made. As Gothic 3 is concerned, I haven't played it since the official patches made the game playable and even then the game was a disappointment. Maybe I'll check it out for an hour or two after I beat Gothic 2. Maybe I'll even visit my local garbage bins and dig up ArcaniA for a good rage induced cry.
