GOTY Contenders... Arkham City ignorance.

Now with SR3 on the horizon, I think its time for a serious discussion.

One thing I've noticed is that there are tons of Skyrim threads, and MW3 hate threads, but no one is mentioning Arkham City. Obviously SR3 is speculation only so we can't bring that into the fold... yet. But still, from all accounts Arkham City has scored well in reviews (which means jack shit to most people) and is supposed to be a solid game so why is there no love/hate toward Batman?
Also another one that may miss the GOTY contention... Skyward Sword. I've heard nothing about this game on this site which is supposed to be full of Zeldites.
So why no Batman:AC/Skyward Sword threads? Why is it just Skyrim love, MW3 hate? Are you folks that 1 dimensional?

Zelda is Nintendo, so everyone thinks it's casual, and nobody really asked for a sequel to Batman, so I guess that's why? I dunno. Plus, SKYRIM AFUHGKSDUFK SO GOOD.

Oh no, when it comes to 'crunch' time, Arkham City will be up there... just wasn't as hyped or as popular, also isn't terrible enough to garner hate.

Who cares? There is no official GOTY ever. GOTY is the game you enjoyed the most. Who cares if a bunch of people are giving Skyrim rimjobs? If you like Skyward Sword or Saints Row The Third more, one of them can be your GOTY.

Personally, I can't wait for Saints Row The Third. Just two more days!

Now you have to remember that quite a few of us on here spreading the Skyrim love are PC gamers.

With that in mind Arkham City hasn't been released on the PC yet.

Skyward Sword is for the Wii, some of us don't even own a Wii so it's not going to get any threads from those of us that aren't even going to play the game let alone buy it.

Also with that in mind you need to remember the modding community for TES games is quite large and I highly doubt a lot of us will be buying Arkham City when it is released on PC purely because we'll be making mods for Skyrim which will take us well into the next year ... or at least until ToR is released and I get distracted by that.

I just have no interest in Arkham City at all.

If they had released it sooner then maybe but now it's a tad late, Skyrims out, Assassins Creed is around the corner and then ToR will be here I just have no time for Arkham City.

Although its all subjective, Uncharted 2 won game of the year when it was released, reward and everything. Spike TV is the only actual reward show I've ever seen. Last year there was even a GOY edition.

SR3 will be very popular but I doubt it'll garner the hype and respect GTAV will. Arkham City was fun and I feel is a main contender for GOY but we still have Assassins Creed coming up Tuesday and it seems to be the conclusion of the past 2 considering the protagonist is in his waning years. MW3 will probably be mentioned but even its biggest fans (above the age of 16) realize its just more of same.

Oh I agree that Skyrim is pretty awesome. Also, I look at GOTY as a personal preference and not an award given by some overblown awards ceremony. I just wonder why there's so much love for Batman and Zelda on this site but no one seems to be talking about Batman or speculating about Skyward Sword...
Just an observation.

I loved Arkham City, I just think it was launched at a very bad time. Most of the people I know have skipped out on it completely in favor of Skyrim. I'd say after all the Skyrim hoopla dies down, people will start to look back on things they missed.

Morrowind and Oblivion were some of the most well regarded games of all time, particularly Morrowind. The depth and breadth of what you could do in those games was phenomenal, and they're hailed as one of the best examples of 'PC power', through the ability for people to mod them with ease. Skyrim has been one of the most anticipated games since it's announcement amongst RPG and PC gamers.

Of course people are going to be talking about it, it was released 2 bloody days ago.

Arkham City was a refined, and well made sequel to a well regarded game of a well known series. It was good, but Skyrim is an enormous release, and it's no wonder that the current focus is on that.

I am thoroughly confused by this entire thread. What do you mean by GOTY? Every major (and minor) publication presents some sort of awards, including Game of the Year. There is no consensus as to which game was Game of the Year for a particular year, no video game Oscars or Emmys or even Pulitzer or Peabody. And no, the Spike TV awards don't count - for goodness sake the AVN Awards have more dignity and relevance that the Spike TV VGAs.

well as a batman fanboy this is kinda hard to say but arkham city while being an amazing game, i didnt think it was as good as the first game, sure it was bigger and had more people in it but that just kinda made some parts of it rushed. two face was only in 2 cut scenes (minus the cat woman story) hugo strange was really only shown at the start and end. and towards the end they really started pulling people outa their ass, dont get me wrong again i loved the game but by no means is it goty.

on a side note still pulling for portal 2 or saints row 3

Does anyone actually care about this Game of the Year nonsense? It's not like the Academy Awards, where there's one universally recognized award system; everybody and their mother has a crappy little ad-filled award show, and they're all equally pointless.

Personally i feel its between skyrim and batman
saints row 3 will be up there also we cant forget about portal 2 either
LA noire will not win dont waste your breath
MW3 will also be close because of its massive fan base but it doesnt deserve goty for just rehashing and old formula and addding so little
Uncharted 3 just didnt have the WOW factor that is needed for goty
Zelda and mario are good and have been good for along time but i dont think either will win because we have seen them so many times This is the same reason why i feel pokemon race relations wont win (got to quote yatzee)
Battlefield 3 i think is better than MW3 but if an fps wins goty it will be COD as always

Nobody asked for a sequel to Batman? Are you fucking kidding me?

When it was announced everyone was like "noooo, it's going to ruin Asylum! Why would you do this Rocksteady?! Betrayal! BETRAYAL!"
So I guess not everyone was like that, just the vocal minority, which, sadly enough are the ones that everybody listens to.
