I don't want to be a party pooper, but... https://www.federalregister.gov/art...2-study-notice-and-request-for-public-comment

Written comments must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on March 21, 2016. The Office will be announcing one or more public meetings to discuss issues related to this study, to take place after initial written comments are received, by separate notice in the future.
I hope I'm wrong. I signed before reading this.

EDIT: https://www.federalregister.gov/art...section-512-study-extension-of-comment-period

The United States Copyright Office is extending the deadline for the submission of written comments in response to its December 31, 2015 Notice of Inquiry regarding the operation of section 512 of Title 17.

Initial written comments are now due no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on April 1, 2016.
Period extended to April 1st! What a relief! :)

Eh, I don't really expect good things from the government getting involved in anything. It's like using a shotgun to kill a gnat; sure you're doing God's work by trying to kill that gnat, but does the collateral damage justify it?

Implying this will do anything beyond a small bit of hubbub.

PIPA and SOPA would've passed if it weren't for sites like Wikipedia shutting down in protest. Unless Youtube and Google strike against false DMCA claims then no one will notice.

The US Government bred this sort of environment with the MPAA and corporations, so the only way they will take notice is if they start losing money.

May not do anything and even if it does it'll likely be a year at the very least before we see any change but it's still got to be worth a shot.
Signed and shared.

This comment page had to get posted the day before April Fools?

Until I noticed the OP's post time I thought this was a joke.

I signed it anyway, but I figured it was just going to end with some email saying "Ha! Like the government cares about petitions."

Wonder if anything will be done about this. Sadly I don't see the goverment doing anything to help the people when companies line their pockets! But then again I'm a cynic.

the government's already involved, though. They bred the gnats and set them on us.
