I've always felt GT to be kinda slow, the speedometer reads 80mph but no way does it feel like I'm doing that speed, feels more like 30-40mph.
One answer to that, Ferrari 458 Italia chasing down an LM spec Jaguar XJ220 on Nordschleife. I swear I must have been doing close to 200Mph on one section took a glimpse at the speedo to find I was only at 140Mph. It's the same as with all racing games the exterior views look much slower than the cockpit views.
Oh and those saying 800 cars are direct GT4 ports, how can they all be direct ports when cars like the Buggati Veyron (a non premium car) didn't even appear in GT4?
that one, like some of the non-GT4 ones, probably came from GT-PSP, which the devs (i think foolishly) said will have all its cars be acquirable in GT5, so they had to, port over and maybe upscaled a bit in the texture dept. but looking at many of them, they didn't.

Right, I did that sometimes. I've read that Premium cars are not just supercars, though, so those people will at least get a few decent Volvos and Fords that they can tune. There's no denying that they boost car numbers with low-res "versions".
However, even the slow cars in Forza are fun and possess a cockpit view, I was racing in an old Supra yesterday and it was cool. GT is not too fun in that respect, especially with the Daihatsu and other tiny little asian city cars.
*brofist*
yeah, the lowest tier cars in GT always suck, I started with at least a miata or used something equivalent, those econonboxes from diahatsu are literally just novelty because the devs in their closed-in auto market see them frequently. we non-japanese are blessed with typical day featuring far better cars. turn10 does better with not-so-novelety-mobiles in F3, or at least allows for mods to make up their preformance. twin-turbo crate engine FTW!
NASCAR engine in mah focus! possible, but redicilous, and they allow it.
On tuning, poking around the GTplanet forum, there are a lot of quirks with how the tuning system currently works in GT5, with some options being limited by A-spec level (espicially race gear ratios, WTF!??!), just by type of car (no turbos for muscle cars BECAUSE WE SAY SO!) some cars (like a certain evoX model) having chronic understeer persist despite mods and tuning that IRL should definitely fix that or have the opposite problem.) and underwhelming maximum power for them supras (725!??!) that kind of stuff really makes me want to wait for updates before dropping coin on this game.

Every Standard car I have is fully upgradedable with performance tweaks. some may have limits to no turbo or something.. but there are plenty of upgrades to do for each car I have been getting/buying.
Either way.. who really cares if the car is ported form GT4, or that it took 7 years or whatever for the game to come out.. how does that ruin/enhance your gaming experience in any way.
We, people whom love to tune the cars, do. It's why we buy this game, and why we buy forza, and why we scoff at the games like grid and shift.
