I share your woe on the lineup, especially when you consider the amount of time they've had. It seems that they just can't shake their usual Gran turismo approach to this stuff.

About Porsche, didn't they sign an exclusivity deal with MS/ an MS linked publisher/ developer? I remember that from somewhere.

Something tells me that DeLorean isn't on that list.

That's really the only car I wanted.
Oh, it's in there. It's not an original 80's model, rather one of the more recent ones produced by DMC, but it's in there.

OT: I'm not too disappointed. Yeah, there are a ton of Jappo-cars, but considering I actually like Nissans (Skylines and Fairlady Z's especially) and have a minor love for Hondas (NSXs and Integras) and Mitsubishis (Evos and... more Evos) that's not a problem for me. Besides, at least GT has a DeLorean, whereas Forza has never had one (and that DLC for FM3 that was supposed to have one seems to have been canned for all I can tell).
They have one?!

Hmmmm...Now if they just release some DLC to make the DeLorean look like it did in Back to the Future II, I may very well be sold on this game.

I know nothing about cars, but most of them on that list sound exactly the same D:

There's like a million dodge vipers with different letters and numbers at the front, what's the difference D:

OH MY GOD EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THIS GAME ISN'T COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. TOTALLY NOT BUYING IT NOW.
Please do point out where the OP said anything about originality.

Or did you not read it?
I'm not sure you're contributing to the discussion at all.
All you ever do is come in and take a dump on people.

Either way, I'm overly enthusiastic that there are 3 versions of the Eclipse and 22 versions of the Evo in GT5.
It IS a shame that Porsches (and a few other companies/cars) aren't included, though.
Oh Polyphony Digital, how you mock us...

Nope not getting this one... my Mazda 3 MPS (Mazdaspeed3) isn't on the list!! Not happy guys!
It's in there under the japanese(?) market name, Axela. Though it isn't the most recent one.

I'm mostly bummed that there are so few new cars. A huge percentage of cars on the list are pre '05. I'm still bummed about lack of cockpits. More Skylines than Ferrari's, no E30 M3, no CTS-V, the fastest sedan.... in the world. Very few American tracks. Bah, pretty disappointed, but I sold the ole 360 & Forza, so this is my racing game.

That said, the RS6 Avant is a premium car, so that makes up for something.

I suspect every time a GT comes out, some people are elated, "My car is in there! I am totally tricking it out!" and some are brought to tears, "They don't have my favorites!"

I don't know how they pick these things, but I do wonder if it is a money thing. Like having to pay athletes for their likeness. They may have spent all the money on a few particular cars, and couldn't afford to pay for the rights to have Porche.

*shrugs* I'm still getting the game. It's the best Racing RPG out there. I still enjoy fixing up a crap car and getting it to race well against better cars. It's a challenge I enjoy.

IMO the developers seem at least to me to be demonstrating an enormous Japanese bias. Look up Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota and Nissan. Those are like 50% of all the cars in the fucking game. Fuck Subaru has more cars on there than Audi does.

Yes, the skyline was a good car... Did we REALLY need 41 versions of it? (I counted).
But oh, we get 7 Lamborghinis to make up for 41 fucking skylines.

There's representing the home team and then there's blatant, flag waving nationalism. There isn't even a fucking single Porsche in this game. Like... the thing is, this game has been in development for a long, long time and you've had some very eagar fans waiting. They expected after all the delays that this game was going to be god damn perfect. It was going to fulfill any and everyone's driving fantasy. And you know what? If your driving fantasy involves a skyline then I guess they fucking have you covered. But how can you ignore Porsche, they're one of the most iconic names in European race history.

I predict Needs more skylines will be the meme of 2011.

edit:
And another thing, saying there is 1031 cars is bullshit. All those skylines are not going to have their own models, they're just going to drive slightly differently. My reaction is basically: "We waited for this?"
add the GT-R, which essentially is a skyline of today, and its over 52!
and fortunately, there is the Nissan SKYLINE GT-R V・spec LM Limited (R33) '96. hell yeah.
and with the game taking many different models of the cars (which often do have (minor) differences in the interior and bodywork, its nice to see they're putting them in, and I bet that they will have their differences in things like centre of gravity and OFC power and suspension setting, and their respective weights, which as you more heavily modify the car, become much more important.
this game isn't perfect, but its going to be FREAKING AWESOME.

I totally agree.. way too many rice burners which are barely sport cars in this game and too many minimal variants.

There are some Porsches.. all of the RUFs are super modded Porsches! so they are even better than stock Porsches. I cant wait to get in the Yellow Bird and 3400S

Engine power and torque, mainly, and if they've modelled the physics correctly, that will make a lot of difference. There was 50 more brake horsepower in the 2002 model than the 1999 model, which made the 0-60mph time increase by 0.6 seconds. Doesn't sound like much, of course, but if you understand car physics and the margins by which a few seconds can affect the course of a race, it means a lot.

Considering the whole aim of the Gran Turismo games, I'm glad that there's a lot of models of the same line of cars. Gran Turismo is as much a library of the automobile as it is a racing game, and the real petrolheads will be champing at the bit, even if there are only a paltry number of Ferraris and Lamborghinis. I'm more disappointed by the lack of tracks. I'd love to see Spa-Francorchamps in there, but I suppose they'll be selling those as DLC. Unfortunately, I don't buy DLC out of principle.
Woah, hang on a minute. Spa isn't in it? How the hell can you have a racing sim and not include Spa?!

Most of the brands you mentioned not being in GT5 will be in Test Drive Unlimited 2, I thought that GT5 had more brands than TDU... interesting...
