I'm loving peeps suggesting civ as a grand strategy game <3
God you guys are so cute sometimes.

Otherwise sorry OP, but hoi series and paradox games in general is about as user friendly and easy to dive into as a beginner as you will find in any grand strategy game.

There's some obscure titles like Star Wars Rebellion that is faster to pick up on then most, but its an average game and tricky to get working on modern computers.

I've heard of some other stuff like Hegemony but I ain't played those ones personally, have mainly stuck to paradox games and a few titles I picked up on impulse such as Superpower 2 and Sengoku (also from paradox), but those 2 I'm still forming an opinion about as yet to finish a full game.

Out of Paradoxes titles (which tend to be the best Grand Strategy) Crusader Kings 2 is probably the most approachable. Don't get me wrong, it's a bit thick, but there are much more clear cut directives, and the tutorials are actually helpful (a first for Paradox).

It's not as go-crazy as HoI or EU, but there's an incredible amount of depth and emergent gameplay the game provides. Unlike practically any other Paradox title you can go through the tutor and jump right in with some idea of what you're doing.
