Hello Escapist Forum

I have recently put together my first computer, everything is running it seems, the only problem is I am not getting a signal on my monitor, It's plugged in to my graphic card which has its fan running but nothing.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

Here is my graphic card --- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500169

Does your computer post?

If it doesn't you may need to pre-install the drivers for the card. That or your card is DOA (like my 5770 was) :(

I don't know what you mean, I don't have any drivers installed at all.

Try switching the monitor connection on the card, my old 8800 was funny like that.
It worked with the last computer that was attached to it earlier today.

Make sure that the input signal you have configured on your monitor is correct, assuming you have a monitor with both VGA and DVI inputs.

On a similar note, try the different ports on the card itself, if there's more than one.

And just as a side note, Are you using a DVI connection? It comes in two separate, non-compatible flavors, DVI-D and DVI-I.

So you've got it plugged in with this:

I have no idea what you are talking about, This is the first computer I am putting together and I am not that good with hard ware. I am using a blue cable for the signal and I had to plug in a adapter. I have no software installed on the computer.

Does your motherboard have its own built-in graphic card? If so, try plugging your cable into it. Does your GPU fan turn on? If so, it might be a motherboard issue, rather than a GPU issue. Can you only turn off your computer by using the power switch on the PSU? If yes to the latter two, you could have a motherboard, CPU or RAM problem. Try turning on your computer with the bare minimum hardware installed. If it works, slowly add more and more parts. You should find your answer. I have the same problem with my first home-built computer.

Edit: Also, does it POST?

It does not have its on built-in graphic card, all the fans turn on. The computer does not turn off without the power supply off but it won't turn on unless I press the button in the front.

Oh sorry, I meant try changing which socket on the card the cable goes in to, it looks like you have two DVI connections on there (the rectangular ones) and my older card wouldn't detect which one was being used, in stead it always output through what it considered it's primary connection.
I have tried them both and still nothing.

I doubt this is a GPU issue. It seems more like your computer isn't booting. Do you hear any beeps from the Motherboard when it starts up? Have you plugged in the 4-pin or 8-pin secondary power connector for your CPU? What are your other parts?

I am not getting LED lights either, The cpu fan is running and that is connected to the mother board though. Here is a thread with my cart.

Okay I missed the 4 pin adapter next to the cpu, now the mother board seems to be running correctly. Still I have no signal to the monitor though.

Try unplugging your computer, placing a single stick of RAM in slot 4, discharging your computer, clearing the CMOS and turning it back on. That should fix it if it's a CPU Initialization failure. If not, perhaps your BIOS may be corrupted or possibly another motherboard issue has occurred.

I don't know what a CSMOS is.

It's the little battery, it's usually a watch battery or something of the same size found on the motherboard. Take out the battery, clear the CMOS then try it again.
Also... if you're not that good with hardware, why are you building your own computer? :S

How do you get good with it until you use it? I'm only 15 I am learning how it all works.
