I was never interested much in comics, but decided to read Watchmen in preparation for the movie. I loved it, but have yet to read any other graphic novels. If anyone could recommend some, I would appreciate it.

I am not looking for a whole comic book series or serialized story arc.

I have been considering buying V for Vendetta and The Killing Joke, so any thoughts on those two would be helpful. Also, is The Killing Joke a standalone story, or is it part of a series?

Read as much Alan Moore as you can get - V for Vendetta and of course, From Hell. They'll change your life.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be sure to check those out. Not sure how soon though, as I have no money at the moment. Anything else I should take a look at?

Wanted and Kick Ass. Both extremely over the top, and beat the movies hands down (Especially Wanted, which doesn't even deserve the fucking name).

I'll add those to my list. I thought Wanted was worth a rental though, and Kick-Ass was hilarious! I have heard that the movie version of Wanted changed quite a bit from the graphic novel, and I have also heard that Kick-Ass was changed thematically. Either way, I've heard good things about both of these and will be sure to look into getting them. Thanks!

Time to go check out my fjorkin' massive bookshelf. I'll recommend:

Y: The Last Man
Preacher
100 Bullets
Transmetropolitan
52
The Walking Dead
Akira
The Sandman
Battle Royale
Bone

Oh wait, shart, NON-serialized comics? I still recommend the above. Okay:

Joker
Maus
Jimmy Corrigan
Squee

I have a lot of books. What's wrong with me?

Recently i have read the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and i would also recommend a little known graphic novel by MCR's very own Gerard Way called "The Umbrella Academy" , very good read.

Thanks for the ideas. By the way, I have read the novel Battle Royale. Is there a comic adaptation, was the comic the original, or are they entirely unrelated to each other?

Thank you for the suggestions. Is the Force Unleashed comic's plot taken straight from the game?

I never read the novel. I'm recommending the manga version...which is....quite graphic. Now that I think about it....it's really sick. Never mind, stick to the novel.

Some great suggestions, I haven't read all those yet so may take your advice.

To the OP, if you're going to read Squee you might like to start with Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, they are stand-alone but I read JTHM first and I think it introduces squee better. Be warned, it's kinda dark and hilarious if you don't take things too seriously.

The problem with Walking Dead and Y: The last man is they're still releasing books so if you're like me you'll be inconsolable until the next one comes out, because they're very good and very more-ish.

I also wanted to second the fellas who said Scott Pilgrim and Kick Ass. Kick Ass already has an amazing movie based on it, and I'm very hopeful for the SP movie which will be out soon. Word of caution SP is comedy relationship thing, with ridiculous kung-fu thrown in. it's great but can seem a little weird if you're expecting standard comic book stuff.

The Killing Joke is a standalone story that sets the possible backstory for The Joker. It is by Alan Moore (of Watchmen) and is well-written and the art is very vibrant and detailed. The transitions between present-day and flashbacks are almost seemless.

And not only does it introduce a major event in Batman's history, but it ends on a stellar joke.

I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it again, I definitely recommend it.

Maybe give Halo: The Fall Of Reach a look, it's a good read and would be a good way to segway into the new game's plot.

It's not the best but it's pretty good, or maybe I'm just saying that as a massive Halo fan.

...You decide, haha.

Are you talking about the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach (if so, I agree, it is excellent)? I've never heard of a graphic novel of it. I have read the Halo Graphic Novel, if that's what you mean.

The Force Unleashed GN does follow the storyline of the game but only shows the true ending of the story unlike the game which gave you the option of two endings, if you want to check it out then CLICK HERE [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Unleashed_(comic)]

Read Grant Morrison. Anything by him. really, he's never done anything that ain't stellar. A couple of stand alones or short ones by him? well some I've read and recommend are;

Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth
Animal Man
The Filth
WE3
Seaguy

Series or longer works;

New X-Men #114-154
Doom Patrol #19-63
All Star Superman #1-12
and of course, The Invisibles, his seminal work.

man, Grant Morrison is made of win.
