Story, reason below

As long as the graphics are better than halo 1 (the original from 2001) then I am happy with the graphics so I would probably say story is more important, however it is good when you get both because graphics help create atmosphere. I would rather a game with good graphics and good story with bad gameplay over a game with good gameplay and bad story, and bad graphics (Good example is mass effect 1 had good graphics and story but bad graphics and I would take it over COD5 any day). it's nice when it's a game like crysis, halo or mass effect 2 were you get all three (I don't care for multiplayer)

It depends on how you look at graphics.

I think Planescape's 2D graphics look superb, I also think Crysis's graphics also look amazing. Planescape's 2D graphics were done WELL, same with Crysis's 3D.

On the flipside I also think that Teen Agent, a 2D game looks like shit, and that the new Rainbow Six games look like shit

I choose gameplay over both, but in this case, I would choose for a story.
Mine's exact opposite wich would be story over both graphics and gameplay (nice when you get all 3, like in mass effect 2). Graphics help to create atmosphere thoe and can help the story

Story and gameplay is where the meat is at. Although they need not both be of noticeable presence; Unreal Tournament has little real story, and most visual novels little real gameplay.

So the technological wizardry a title pulls is a decidedly secondary factor, although the art design of the graphics can hardly be separated from the story, being essential to the game world; God of War wouldn't have been worth nearly as much if every wall in the game had been barren concrete.

Depends on the gameplay. If the bad graphics would get in the way of the gameplay, then I wouldn't play the game regardless of how good the game is. If the graphics don't get in the way of gameplay, then I really don't care how ugly they are so long as the story is good. But that story better be DAMN GOOD.

Story over graphics.

That's why I would prefer Deus Ex or Half Life over Brink or Duke Nukem Forever.

Story over gameplay usually.

However, sometimes I want a game just to play for fun, so gameplay and graphics would be better. Not that a game with good gameplay and graphics can't have a good story.

Graphics over story. A year ago I would have said story, but now I've realized if the graphics are crap chances are I won't last 2 hours.

But gameplay is better.

I'm more of a fan of the storyTELLING. By that I mean the voice acting, cinematics quality, pacing and all that. Sort of a combo of the two options. I mean, look at games like Tales of Monkey Island or the Sam and Max serie. Sure, the graphics themselves aren't fantastic, but combined with the way the story is told and it's cutscenes and dialog, they make for excellent games.

Story.
TBH, i couldn't care less what a game looked like. If a tree looks like a tree, then there need not be any improvement to the way that tree looks.

I'll take a game with bad graphics as long as i can get an amazing story. I play the games not to just Oooo la la over good graphics but to also be entrapped by a very grasping story like a good book.. I'd be able to over look bad graphics for that.

Story. I own too many games where the character's face is made out of three pixels to say graphics.

If the story is gripping and interesting and fun, I honestly don't care what the game looks like. I've played many ugly games for story but never a storyless game for graphics.

I can has a balance of both?

If you wrote a Xenogears-quality story but the graphics looked like Big Rigs, there's no way I'd get into the story.

Likewise, if the game is FFXIII-gorgeous, but has a FFVIII-quality story, I'm gonna hate that too.

Story first, grafics isn't important to me.

Example: Psychonauts, Grim Fandango... I can't really think of any more right now but you get the point.

For me, it all depends on the aesthetic.

Certain game types work better with different graphic types. If minecraft had better graphics, it would suck, but if a game such as Splinter cell had worse graphics it would suck.

In general though i'd go with story over graphics, i like a games single player to have a good storyline, so it gives you a sense of purpose for your character. Otherwise you just end up sitting there wondering why the hell you have to collect these stupid gems anyway, and why bother.
