Just a quick notification for any not aware...There are (PS4 exclusives?) demos obtainable for the unreleased Nier:Automata and Gravity Rush 2 for whomever desires. Kinda both titles share a similar cult-like status, and it's weird to see both given the same treatment this way. Has anybody tried them? Any opinions so far? Am only on Gravity Rush 2 currently, but it did a cool thing that helped with a certain issue with the main game mechanic, and that is to understand my hatred of seagulls! The bastard bullies of the natural world. Fuck seagulls. Not literally of course, that's probably illegal in most states.
Err Anyhow... Thoughts? Death threats? Premonitions? All are welcome!

I already got the demos and played them, but thanks for the notification. I beat the Gravity Rush 2 demo at a Best Buy last week, and completed the Nier: A demo three times. I might attempt Very Hard later.

I'm downloading Nier, but for some reason I get a 'cannot download' notification with Gravity Rush 2. And that's exactly the one I wanted to try out the most.

The gameplay in NieR was promising, though combat wasn't exactly a primary reason why I love the first one so much, so I'm still waiting to fully play it and see if it lives up the first one.

As for Gravity Rush I still need to get around to playing the first one.

I was disappointed in the Nier demo. With Platinum doing the combat, I thought there would be more depth, but just holding the light attack button is one of the best combos. Thus, it's basically Nier's super simple "going through the motions" combat but just smoother and cooler looking. The most alarming part of the demo to me was how uninteresting the characters were, that was easily the high point of the 1st game. Kaine and Weiss were so entertaining every second they were on screen.

Ugh that's a shame, I'm kinda on the fence about whether I'll buy nier 2 or not cause having played nier 1 I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a better experience just watching a let's play of it, since the story was the only thing worth playing for and the combat and quest where just tedious time waster.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. The combat feels excellent and smooth. The demo was clearly from the beginning of the game, so I would assume that the combat becomes more complex as the story goes on. I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't want a demo to swamp me with complex battle sytems the moment I turn it on. I want it to exist as a proof of concept. The same is true for the characters. From what I saw, I liked them. I can already see where the game is setting up the plot for something big later. The demo is only twenty minutes long, after all. At this point in the original I was still faffing about the village. Weiss didn't even show up for another hour. Given how short the demo was, I thought a lot happened in a surprisingly short amount of time.

Honestly, this is the first game in years to get me excited. It feels like what I wanted FF15 to be.

All of Platinum's games have all the mechanics available from the start like the Bayonetta and Vanquish demos. The first Nier never added anything more to the combat other than more magic spells either. I can't see the combat having any depth, there's literally nothing pointing to that happening. The gameplay will have to change things up like the 1st Nier to stay interesting. I don't know much about Nier Automata with regards to characters and story, but the little that I do know seems to point to 2B, 9S, and another android being the main characters and from the demo, the dialogue wasn't anything near interesting compared to the 1st game. Have characters similar to Kaine or Weiss been shown in other videos? They really carried the 1st Nier IMO. The story wasn't really anything that special, it was decent to good.

Kaine and Weiss didn't show up until several hours into the game. Why would we see their equivalents in the first twenty minutes of Nier 2? At this point in Nier 1 the only character we'd seen was the main character. We blundered around a village and completed a fetch quest. By comparison, I'd say Automata was a huge improvement. You're comparing the highlights of the first game to the first twenty minutes of the second. Of course it will come up short.

At some point you either trust Taro Yoko to write something interesting or you don't. Based on literally all his prior work, good or bad, Nier Automata is guaranteed to be interesting.

I realize it's a demo and I was asking if characters such like Kaine or Weiss have been shown in videos. The first Nier showed them in videos. From what I've seen of Automata (and I haven't been following it close at all), the androids are the main characters and they don't seem nearly that interesting. You can still blunder about a village and complete a fetch quest in the 1st 20mins of Automata, what we played is almost certainly not the beginning of the game either. I don't see what your point is in saying that. I'm just saying I expected the combat to have more depth coming from Platinum. I expected something about the characters to merely pique my interest. But neither of that happened so how do you expect one to have a positive feeling about the demo? And I was not expecting the demo to be as good as the best parts of the 1st game either. I only played the 1st Nier out of Yoko's work so I can't really trust him. Plus I thought Nier, while good and interesting for the most part, was so overrated by its fanbase.

I downloaded both the other day, but I have only played Gravity Rush 2, which I really liked. I will have to play the first game before it comes out so I know what's going on. I haven't played Nier yet.

I'm closing in on obtaining my Platinum trophy for Gravity Rush 1, so this post has impeccable timing!

I have lonely anticipated a sequel to the game, although it is a shame that this one will not end up on the Vita. This was just hearsay to me though, so if anyone could confirm that would be much appreciated. I just feel like the game transferred really well into the Vita's touch-style controls, although some of the races were rather abysmal due to spotty tilt functions. That's really the only complaint I had for it in the end.

Just wondering, about how long of a time sink is the demo for Gravity Rush 2?

About 20-25 minutes on a first play.

Sounds satisfying enough for a playable demo.

I'm usually not one to scope out demos before a release, but this will more than likely be the exception, especially since there's some fun to be had apparently.
