Great but extremely unknown/underrated games.

I'll mention something I'm playing now and say Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone. The strategy system uses cards but they're used so well. I can't really describe it other than the fact that it's a SRPG that uses cards as a means of movement and attack. It's a must play for any fan of the genre.

Any Shin Megami Tensei game (especially Nocturne, which is hard to find and is perhaps the best of the series)!

As well, killer7. It's mind-boggling weird, yet so SO cool...

War of the Monsters
That game was so epic when I got it. Even like four years later, when I had a couple friends over and they ended up playing it, all of them went out and bought it the next day.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends.

Such a promising game world, and they never actually finished it! Did you know the original plan was for four races and four campaigns instead of just three?
Such a shame.

I'm a JRPG fan, so for me it'd be Shadow Hearts, either 1 or 2 (not 3 *shudder*) A truly unique piece of gaming, it had it's moments of being kooky, funny, weird and genuinely horrifying, and it blows all final fantasy games I've ever played (bar VI) out of the water, by a long way.

It's the most weird, fun game that no ones ever heard of.

Moon for DS. creepy, intense sci-fi shooter from Renegade Kid for the DS. GREAT game, not much replay value but a fun game nonetheless.

Quite a lot of oldies come to mind like Battlezone 1, Outcast or the Crusader No Remorse and No Regret games from the 90s. But I got a feeling those were actually fairly well-known at the time. So instead I'm gonna mention an even more ancient game, which in spite of coming into existance still convinces me to replay it every now and then on the DosBox.

Star Control 2. Not one game has come close to it since in terms of what it has delivered with its experience. Some of its elements are brushed against within Mass Effect 2, but that series is about something fairly different. It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a single developer that's interested in bringing modern graphics and gameplay mechanics to expand on what Star Control had begun. But meh...mediocrity > fun these days I guess.

Any S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game
Actually they are pretty well known in PC gaming circles and widely priased as of Call of Pripyat. It's a great sign and the game as spead mainly through word of mouth. Infact i even met a few people i didn't know were PC gamers commented on the game, it's become a byword a shooter with some BALLS.

SoC has sold over 3 million last count

Clear sky broke 2 million

Call of pripyat had sold over 2million copies as of 2009 (not even released in english yet!)
Call of Pripyat was released in the US February 2, 2010 and in the EU on February 5, 2010.

However, I would love to see statistics on how many people actually beat any of the Stalker games. I would have to say they are the most loved, least finished.

Actually CoP came out in russian language territories in october 2009 and then in germany in novemeber 2009.

Most people i've met have finsihed Shadow of chernobyl and Call of pripyat.
umm hmm... but you said CoP had not been released in English yet... which is inaccurate.

I've previously stated my love for Republic Commando, and I also love Metal Arms: Glitch in the system. I'm noticing a pattern here: These both REALLY NEED SEQUELS. As in, right now.

Are you listening, LucasArts? I want to know what happened to Sev! That guy was Awesome!
Sev was indeed badass. Even in the books there's a cliff hanger as to what the hell happens to Sev. But definitely needs a sequel, now.

OT.... I can't think of a game. I'll be back with one.

For me, Sin & Punishment. Only available on the Virtual Console outside of Japan. In fact, most games by Treasure.

I suppose mine would have to be The Incredible Machine for the PC, which is now sadly extremely hard to get except maybe on eBay. The closest we ever have to it nowadays is the recently released "Crazy Machines Ultimate Edition" on Windows, and that doesn't have as much cruelty potential as TIM.
Psst... GOG.com is selling it + several expansions & sequels for $10.
