Great song, which Nirvana totally ripped off for "Come As You Are"

Pantera- cowboys from hell. The entire album is great and hugely influential to metal music as a whole. Yes it was late eighties but it still qualifies :D

Not sure what genres you like but I'd recommend some of my favourites from the 80s

I also would recommend listening anything from these bands;

The Smiths
House of Love
The Cure
Campervan Beethoven
Sonic Youth

Well there's alot to choose from, some good, some bad ... most of it is a bit a blur at this point... These were drilled into my brain via popular radio stations and movies of the time. It was only mildly painful.

<spoiler=I remember this used to be cool, cause it was in he breakfast club><youtube=djV11Xbc914>

However i was born in the nineties, were like every generation,w e had our good and our bad music, but I like to say we were probably the most... transistional? generation (EDIT:) at least musically.

And of course the 80s gav us this wonderful piece of... music? yea, we'll go with that:

Seriously, it was made in 1987, and from what my mom says, it was pretty much THE song for a while.

But I Won't Do That (Meatloaf), or "It's All Coming Back to Me Now (Celine Dion, but that's well out of the 80s now).)
Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
David Bowie - Under Pressure (WITH QUEEN!)
Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl
REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You

I imagine I could easily keep going, but I'm going to stop here and have dinner.

So much good music came out of the eighties, it makes up about 40% of what I listen to, the band that started all this was the Clash so Id recommend starting there- whilst they began as another punk outfit they rapidly evolved into a phenomenally eclectic, marrying funk ska and folk into something beautiful.
The Stranglers are another example of an 80's punk band maturing, their later stuff is best described as techno scandivian inspired rock, as well their songs being played all over the place, search for Golden Brown and tell me you havent heard it before.
Pop music was also still breathing back then too- try the Cure (early stuff only, they went all emo later on) and Blondie whilst technically 70's did some of the best work before they broke up early 80's.
Oh and another good one is the Jam, Paul Weller maybe a grumpy prick but he aint half fucking talented.

Wow tl;dr much?

Jack always recommends Queen. Jack also recommends the album from Transformers: The Movie. (You know, the original one with Unicron in it? Yeah.)
