Great Films With Cringe Worthy Moments

Here I'm talking about films you really enjoy that just have a scene, character or moment that makes your insides shrivel up and try to escape from your naval cavity.

To kick this off with an example I am a huge batman nerd, I love me some caped crusader. So obviously I enjoyed The Dark Knight, however the scene with Harvey Dent in the courtroom always makes my soul sad. It's needlessly over the top, and has pointless patriotism thrown in for good measure. For the life of my I can't find a video of the scene but, for those who don't know what scene I mean, Dent is interviewing a witness on the stand who retracts his statement. He then pulls a gun on Dent but it misfires. Here's where it gets a bit daft, Dent takes the gun from the suspect and punches him in the face, then casually strolls over to the defence table, takes the gun apart and says something along the lines of "The next time you try to kill a public official I suggest you buy American". As the judge calls for people to escort the man out of the court Dent stops him saying "But judge, I'm not done yet" cue applause in the audience etc etc.

Now my issue with this is that the ridiculous bravado and patriotism just came off as incredibly forced to me. Also the ending makes no sense. Firstly, you've just knocked the guy flat out, what info are you expecting to get from an unconscious man?? Secondly, even if he was conscious, he's just retracted his statement and perjured himself in court literally 30 seconds ago, what are you hoping will happen by continuing to question him??

So, what films can you guys think of that overall is a great film, but has a moment that is truly awful?

I never really got a patriotic vibe from that scene.

OT: The ending of The Prestige.

I know what you mean. That scene was rather stupid, though I guess they couldn't come up with a better way to show off Dent's methods.

As for being OT, .....uh.......Just about every comedy I can think of has at least one moment that I always fast forward through.

I can't just name one, I've yet to see a comedy that doesn't have an extremely awkward moment.

The ending of The Dark Knight, for one. The problem was nonexistent until Batman basically said there was, even though Harvey Dent's actions really should not be as significant as they are made out to be, especially since they could just order a media blackout if it was really necessary. Now Batman's on the run the law all of a sudden, despite their being no build-up to such a conclusion. I know they needed a way to up the ante for the third movie, but they could have weaved that in better. As it stands, it just feels incredibly forced.

P.S. Sorry, I'm not feeling very original right now.

In Leon, one of my favourite movies, there's a scene where he randomly yells and the camera zooms in on his face. Also, the Big Bad in the movie once yells, "ALL OF THEM!" Both are so cringe-worthy and corny.

Which is why I like movies that don't take themselves seriously but are still good movies, like Robert Rodriguez movies, Tarantino movies, and the Cornetto movies. There if something's corny, it's just funny.

You believe no will think it suspect that Dent randomly shows up at the same place with Gordan's family, the Commissioner himself, and Batman? How about the fact that prior to that Dent assaulted a cop and threatened to murder her?

My biggest complaint about it is him being such a pansy after that short fall when earlier in the film he dives off a skyscraper and onto a car.

How about Silly rabbit trix are for kids in Kill Bill. I didn't hate that they said it, but I feel really guilty for not.

The party scene in Iron Man 2, and the scene in Spider-Man 3 where Peter visits Mary Jane in the restaurant, and acts like a complete jerk.

That part in Watchmen where Rorshach unloads on that convict with the frier. I just think the way he delivered his line after that was narmy, for lack of a better word.

I don't know if it's particularly cringe-worthy, but it was when I first saw it. I watched Saving Private Ryan, and ran from the living room when that guy had his intestines falling out of him. This was just after it had come out on tape, so I was maybe 7 or 8. I didn't want. Now though, I can look at people's insides without so much as a curious look.

I never really thought Empire Strikes Back was as good as many others do, I just think it's alright, it starts off a bit weak and gets better as the movie goes on, IMO.

That said, I facepalm hard every time I see Leia calls Han a "scruffy looking Nerf-herder". I always expect Luke to toss a bunch of Nerf foam rockets on the ground and tell Han to pick them up. Yeah, I know there has been an "expanded universe" description as to what exactly a Nerf-herder is, and I have been told what that is, but as far as I'm concerned, the expanded universe can go ahead and die of sexual penetration through the kneecaps.

How bout the end of The Hangover, where some guys with a van randomly pull up and throw them a bunch of tuxes from a moving vehicle?

Seriously, where the fuck did that come from?

Uh how about that part in Pan's Labyrinth when the captian caved a dude's skull in with a beer bottle. I hate that part.
