I'm looking for a quality free MMO, I may be searching in vein but at least one of these masses of free MMO's must be good. If you have any suggestions please post some, tell me your favourites.

D&D Online is good fun. Especially with friends. I remember playing Knight Online a while back, but I can't remember if it was good or not.

Lord of the Rings Online is good. It's got a great community and great graphics. Gameplay-wise, it's pretty much a WoW clone, but if you like Lord of the Rings, you'll love this game. It stays very true to the lore; it has to or else the Tolkien estate will pull the plug.

And if you want to RP, try the Landroval server. Just watch out for some of the RPers... There are a few you should stay away from, and one in particular that ruined it for me; I won't be playing LOTRO again. I can give you some tips if you need help starting out. Send me a PM.

Word of warning regarding LotRO: It's not so much free, as it is a trial version. Vast majority of the game is locked off. Imagine someone telling you WoW was free, but when you try to play, you realize you can only quest in the starting areas and halfway through the Barrens and that you can only get a maximum of 5 Talent points. And that you can't use the Auction house. Or carry more than 2 Gold at one time. Or own a mount. The list goes on. Sure, you can earn the in-game currency that lets you buy the content and such, but it involves a LOT of grinding.

Also, while it's a good game, it's basically WoW with a different skin and a few different touches...

Vindictus looks promising, most games built using the source engine are good
I beta'd Vindictus and really didn't like the way that it handled. But seeing as it's the prequal to Mabinogi I'm willing to let it slide.

I would highly recommend Mabinogi. It's F2P and it's got a lot of content.

Runes of Magic, you can experience the entire game without paying a cent...unlike LotRO.

Requiem is pretty good. Cabal Online has an interesting battle system.

Just take a look at the list of free MMOs on wikipedia.

That's it. I'm coming out about something: I don't have a problem with Runescape. It may not be the best MMO on the market, but it's addictive, dammit.

But more seriously, LotRO would be your best bet, in my opinion. I enjoy it so much that I'm currently paying subscription for it. The RP community on the Landroval server is fantastic, from what I've seen, and it's a real blast.

LotRO is only worth it if you pay a sub for it. As a F2P game it offers too little content and is very limiting on the player. And the OP was asking about FREE MMOs. LotRO is great, but not as a free game.

At the risk of being accused of just slinging links, I recommend Dragonica Online, that game ate my soul, Vindictus is amazing, but has obscene system requirements so that may or may not be an issue. Or if your looking for a more conventional..uh "Wow clone", 4 story and runes of magic are both fairly respectable for the price tag of free.

Now that we got that out of the way, this site has suited all of my FTP Mmo needs whenever I just got bored of warcraft for a few months.

I know it's been said, but I'm adding my voice: Vindictus.

My recommendation is to play Fiona (the sword and shield chick) because
(a) having a shield to block attacks is ludicrously helpful to your survival once you get past the first area (and once you get Counterattack, you are unstoppable!),
(2) at lvl 24 you can use a hammer, and I NEVER get tired of doing a golf swing attack that launches enemies into the horizon, shattering everything in it's trajectory and leaving a crevasse of broken limbs, wood and stone in its wake,
(d) seriously, with a hammer and shield you are a wrecking ball that can stunlock bosses and shatter entire landmasses.

Game is still a little buggy (but it's being regularly improved), so if you don't mind putting up with some connection issues that occasionally cause bad lag or gold spammers galore (may they all burn in Hell for eternity where swarms of Herpes-ridden locusts will feast on their regenerating nether regions for time unending) then give it a try.
