Simply put, this is a game that entered your knowledge in a way that didn't involve explicit advertising - TV campaigns, magazine inserts, trailers, being featured on Steam's boot or gushing forum posts. Basically, you just found it lying around and decided to take it home - and when you played it, it was incredibly awesome. Share your stories!

Actually, there's two games that I've located on Steam that nobody would probably ever advertise for any amount of money: Gundemonium and eXceed. How does Steam stuff get found 'by accident', you may be wondering? Reread the above paragraph: they weren't introduced to me through advertising.

I actually found the first one by putting a bunch of random letters into Steam's search bar. I don't remember what I was looking for, but I found a game called "GundeadliGne". I decided, it's there, why not give it a look? After that, it hooked me. I love games that are excessively Japanese and don't give a damn about it - and loli bullet hell is about as Japanese as it's possible to get while still having actual gameplay. The other two games in the series weren't that hard to search up and add to my wishlist, and as soon as they came out for real, I snapped them up.

eXceed was actually even more random - I just saw it on Steam's 'new releases' list and I couldn't tell from the sidebar what kind of game it was. So I decided to give it a look and found possibly the hardest game I've ever played: I can't even beat the first level. Of any of the three games in the package. Rockin' soundtrack though:

So anyway, enough about my own little discoveries - what games did you find without them being pushed into your face and wound up loving?

I say this a lot but Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. I hadn't really heard of it and assumed it was just some crappy tie-in game to the movie released earlier that year. I borrowed it from a friend when he was done with it and was pleasantly shocked at how good of a game it was. I had a blast throughout my playthrough.

Bayonetta, I assumed it would be some DMC clone with random titties lying about but it was surprisingly awesome... Somehow the "ironic sexiness" thing was pulled off amazingly.

Seriously Bayonetta ceases to be sexually attractive after about an hour. She's just in-character.

I have no idea what sparked my interest in Persona 4 either... I was thinking idlely about getting it for quite a while before I did. The only "research" I did on the game was whether or not I had to play Persona 3 first to understand it.

At least with Phoenix Wright I can cite Sanity Not Included skits as a weird motivation for picking up the game :S

Who uses this as motivation to buy a game? Seriously? I'm disappointed in myself

The game from which my avatar originates.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System.

I saw it when I was young and I liked the idea of robots blowing each other to pieces. So I grabbed it, without ever having been told anything about this game, and it's one of my favourite games from the PS2 era

Limbo.

Searching around youtube looking for fun games I stumbled across Limbo in a suggested video and never looked back. I also found Paranormal, Amnesia and Slender the same way, although I was bound to find Slender eventually as I love the Slenderman story. Such a cool game, if a little 'brown trouser' inducing.

As a kid, I found a demo of Heroes Of Might & Magic 2, and fell in love. The series may have gone downhill a bit, but it's still a wonderful game to play. Grid-based strategy combat with spells, towns to be laid siege to, a variety of units and so on. Never played anything else quite like it.

For some reason, that made me think of that Dali painting of the clocks, but with melted tits instead :p

Dragon Age: Origins.

A friend of mine forced it into my hands one day and I played it. Clocked over 200+ hours to this day... that is seriously tragic.

One of my favorite games, Einhander, was not even on my radar nor on my pique interests during that time. But thank god I tried the PS1 demo disk simply because I was bored and wanted to try to play some other games. By far, out of all the demos, Einhander's Stage 1 demo was amazing for me. It was very impressive in its era.

EDIT: I would also add God of War on the list simply because it was the sole game that changed my outlooks as well as my interests in games. It raised the bar so much I wanted to play the best of the best games out there. How did I discover or even got my radar to GoW? A minor friend suggested it to me in one sentence. Not even a major discussion we talked about.

Kingdom Hearts for me I was in the game store and my dad saw it and went "oh look a game with disney characters" at first I dismissed it knowing nothing about it and thinking it was a shitty little kids game but I read the cover and thought why not. Best accidental find ever.

Off the top of my head...Dragon's Dogma.

I wandered into Gamestop, saw it sitting on the new releases shelf, and thought "Eh, why not?"

I absolutely adore that game and am still having a blast with it.

I have to say No More Heroes. I was looking on a forum post here of games to play and somebody said that, so for my birthday I got No More Heroes 2, I fell in love with it. One of my favorite games of all time.
