I love movie sound tracks. Done well, they add a great deal to the theme and emotional heft of a movie.

On Amazon streaming is a really weird yet oddly exhilarating movie, "Swiss Army Man". It may be years before you get to see a movie this weird again. But it was fantastic, as was the sound track.

What great sounds tracks have moved y'all lately?

You can't go wrong with Ennio Morricone. How the hell did he not get a single Oscar until 2016, I'll never know.

Fantastic: I'm prejudiced in that your 2nd pick is so iconic to me. I'll have to share with some sound track loving friends. (Though they already know stuff I did not!) Thanks for sharing.

Where the Wild Things Are

Just generally happy songs I happen to fancy
Though it might be a case of OST differing from actual movie tracks (defeats the purpose but they do that sometimes) as I haven't seen the thing since release

Soundtracks, as opposed to scores? In that case I'd say you can't go wrong with a loving cross-section of Seattle grunge in Cameron Crowe's Singles, the mostly very successful merging of metal and rap that is Judgement Night and Industrial / EBM splendor of Hideaway.

I only ever bought one movie soundtrack... Clerks.

There was a movie back in the 90's, a romance/thriller called Blink. It was an ok movie, but totally worth watching because it featured an awesome Chicago local Celtic rock band called The Drovers. It wasn't worth getting the soundtrack because it only had 3 or 4 Drovers songs on it, but I did wind up buying all the Drovers albums because of the movie.

But as far as good music is concerned, I've had better luck with TV and Videogame soundtracks than I have with movies.

The one I've listened to the most times is Symphonic Suite Akira
A really great example! I love the epicness of 'Requiem' and how beautifully the voices are used.

There are a lot of cool and emotional OSTs out there. I think the current use of movie music to support the shown situation should revert a little bit back to times in which the score had defined tracks. If you're in the mood to check out some of these:

- Princess Mononoke
- Hero
- Blade Runner
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Personally, I think 'The Two Towers' is the best one)
- Tron Legacy (not so good movie, awesome music)
- Social Network
- Romeo & Juliet (Baz Luhrman version)
- The Fountain
- The Englishman Who Went up a Hill but Came down a Mountain
- Rob Roy

Sicario.
It's even better in a cinema with massive bass speakers. I was glued to the edge of my seat the whole time, and the booming soundtrack was a major factor in the tension.

I Fucking love the sound tracks for the Pirates of the Caribbean and Sherlock Holmes movies. No matter what you think of the movies as a whole you can not deny that the music of the movies is top tier stuff. Hell, pretty much anything Hanz Zimmer works on is gold in my book.

Trainspotting and Trainspotting 2 are probably the only two I listen to semi-regularly.

Oldboy (the Korean one) and Park Chan-Wook's follow up Sympathy for Lady Vengeance both have terrific, classically-inspired OSTs composed by Jo Yeong-Wook, well worth a spin around the ol' turntables. Anything by Clint Mansell also, he's composed some of the most iconic film music of all time. Brian Eno too, obviously.

EDIT: how could I forget The Grand Budapest Hotel? It's impossible for me to listen to the theme to that film without smiling.

Drive - but only the songs not the background music.

A bunch of current musicians who are aping 80s music. Pretty good.

Basically anything Joe Hisaishi, but especially the Mononoke soundtrack (Though maybe I'm biased since that's my favourite film.)

And on the topic of Japanese film composers, I also really dig Kawai's weird orchestral/electronic/classic Japanese chant music thing.

Out of the realm of orchestral stuff by a large margin, but ROB's score for the remake of Maniac is super underrated. Reminds me of Wendy Carlos, and that ain't no bad thing.

Perhaps this is cheating a little since it's based on a Rock Opera, but fuck it. I've always loved the Movie version of 'Mother' by Pink Floyd. Bleak as fuck, especially when compared to the original (Which wasn't exactly a happy song), but that's the movie as a whole - super bleak. But I kind of dig it.

There are a loooot of great soundtracks I love and could be here forever going through them all. But will go for a film that has stuck with me for years with its' use of music. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet;

This one does something special to my special places.

Radiohead track am currently working on covering;

And something not really used in the film exactly, but an integral part of it nonetheless;

The rest are great too, but not as soul piercing in comparison.
