Id recommend the 13th warrior if you get tired of watching the heavy dramas or have already seen all the other action movies listed. Its just good old hacking and slashing with a solid story.
I still have a hard time accepting that movie to be true, but it has to be, because life is always more ridiculous and screwed up than art. That was an excellent flick!

I would have to recommend Welcome to Collinwood. I don't give a damn that it's a remake--of a film from 1958 no less. Enough time has passed. It has George Clooney, Sam Rockwell (from Moon), William H. Macy and Patricia Clarkson. It's so ridiculous and the characters are all lovable morons.
I also recently saw Reindeerspotting, a documentary about some young guys in Finland who are horribly addicted to a drug called Subutex (among other drugs, but mainly Subutex). It's all real-life footage shot on a home video camera. The craziest revelation in the film is that
Subutex is a habit-forming opiod substitute, like Methadone. It's distributed for free in France to treat addicts but ends up being sold on the black market, reaching all of Europe and into Scandinavia. It's a classic case of good intentions with bad results. Truly depressing.
And I really liked Dredd. It painted such an incredible picture of a futuristic, degrading, dystopian future while simultaneously humanizing so many of its characters. It was very brutal, and if the Blu-ray had any extra features I would buy it. Unfortunately I'll have to wait for a price drop instead. Dredd isn't necessarily a 'must see' movie, but damn it surprised me.
Oh yeah, those are such classics. I don't think I could pick a favourite!
If you're into old movies at all, there's a couple I've watched that I think have really stood the test of time:
M (1931) - A creepy film with great use of sound and silence
Casablanca (1942) - Fast talking, dirty dealing film with great characters
The Big Sleep (1946) - Funny, clever crime drama
The Third Man (1949) - A great mystery film with some very interesting views on morality
Also, westerns are awesome. Spaghetti Westerns, John Ford westerns, Blazing Saddles - come to think of it, watch Blazing Saddles. That film is terrific.
Ravenous is a film I would suggest everyone go see, it has a brilliant cast, brilliant soundtrack (By Michael Nyman & Damon Albarn) and a brilliant plot.
Unfortunately it didn't score that well with the critics but I love it anyway.

Millers Crossing.
Yojimbo.
Laptua, Castle in the Sky.
The Third Man.
Unforgiven.
Once upon a time in the west.
Toy story.
Reservoir Dogs.
Seven.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
Adaptation.
The Princess Bride.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Alien.
12 monkeys.
No country for old men.
There's way too many to even list them here. But you can't go wrong with Fight Club [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137523/] or The Usual Suspects [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114814/].
I'll second any mentions of Seven, the Usual suspects, Tarantino films and Hero/House of flying daggers/curse of the golden flower.
My other favourite films are probably Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, Brick, Battle Royale, Con Air, Sin City and In Brugges, I'd recommend all of them.
The Shawshank Redemption, my all time favorite movie.
Also, some of Peter Jackson's early work is great fun, like Braindead (Dead Alive some places).
I would say Saving Private Ryan, but it's been said, so The Thin Red Line.
Platoon and Full Metal Jacket are also great. I'll also recommend Starship Troopers.
Anything that Ray Harryhausen worked on, but in particular these two:
Jason and the Argonauts (1963) - the fight scene with the skeletons is probably my favourite piece of special effect ever
Clash of the Titans (1981)
Ben-Hur (if you can sit through 3.5 hours mind)
The 39 Steps (1935)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Italian Job (1969)
I'd also add in Invictus. Just don't be put off if you don't like rugby (or sport in general). Or politics. And now I've put you off it... j/k (I hope.)
Wow, there are so many out there - here are some to get started with:

Apocalypse Now
The Usual Suspects

The Warriors
The Life of Brian

The Avengers
Magic Mike
Yeah, all the films that you should see if you are looking for great films. And I can't promise you'll like all them, and I'm sure you've seen some. Of that list Matchstick Men, Adaptation and In Bruges are probably my highest recommended
And with Gerry, John Dies at the End, Hot Rod and Bad Lieutenant while I can't promise you'll like them, hell I'm not sure I liked Gerry all that much, they will stick with you. Gerry is totally unscripted, it's just Casey Affleck and Matt Damon walking through the deesert talking but it's worth seeing...
