I've been playing my old Gamecube, recently been playing "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects", and I remembered why I loved it. The fun combat, and kickass alternate costumes (Sorry, I couldn't think of a second reason), and being me, I always ask the Escapist people "What is your favourite under rated game?"

Mirrors Edge. I enjoyed it the first time through back in November, and I still find myself playing it from time to time. I have no idea why the game appeals to me so much, it just does.

I'll agree with you on that. Many people act like it's one of the worst games in the world, but it's pretty good fun. Except for speed runs. Balls to those.

Brave Fencer Musashi. Inventive characters, and interesting take on an otherwise chilche plot (save the princess, eh Mario?) Great, nay, immaculate game! But the sequel... DAMN YOU SQUARE-ENIX!!! Just die already!! *Sob sob*

... Oh, and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. I never heard much about this. I assume (if incorrectly) that it wasn't too popular, but in my opinion it's ne of the best Castlevanias I've played.

I'd say mine is Geist. It is true that it never really lived up to its potential but you can't deny its a very unique experience.

I'm going to invoke the Killer 7 argument.

was this the expansion version of castlevania 64? If its the one im thinking of, then yes, everyone hated it. I LIKED castlevania 64 tho.

now, MY response for an underrated game... Vexx. This game was absulutely PANNED by every review I read. But I love it. Excellent old-school 3d platforming, and the glove gimmick just works lol

Spyro The Dragon 2 and 3 for the PS1. Even as you are reading this you think that this is just some person gushing over a kiddy game from his childhood and that is why it is underated.

Damn skippy. K7 is extremely under rated. As is:
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath - the best FPS I've ever played
Otogi 2 - one of the most surreal games i've played
Panzer Dragoon Orta - Never played saga, but it's my fave in the series
God Hand - the best beat-em-up I've ever played. IGN gave it a 3.0/10. That's right.
Silent Hill 4 - my second fave in the series, it always gets bagged on because it wasn't originally intended as a Silent Hill game.

Arcanum of Steamworks and Magic Obsceura (Epic free flowing RPG, mostly non-linear, PC)
Dungeon Keeper 2 (Wicked Sim that defies description, PC)
Evil Genius (Slow moving Evil Genius sim, PC)
Starsiege Tribes (GREAT FPS game, sadly obsolete, PC)
Starsiege (Great Mech Battle game, compelling backstory, sadly obsolete, PC)
Kohan II: Kings of War (Unique Strategy game, PC)
Warlords Battlecry 2 (Strategy game with RPG elements, PC)
Majesty The Northern Expansion (Fantasy Kingdom Sim/RTS, PC, Majesty Gold)
Shadowbane (Sadly Obsolete one of a kind MMO, PC)
Romancing Saga: The Minstral Song (Non-Linear RPG, PS2)
SaGa Frontier (Non-Linear RPG, PS1)
Shadows of Amn (RPG, PC)
Fallout 1&2 (Non-Linear Post Nuclear RPG, PC)
Crono Trigger (Fantastic RPG, SNES)
Super Mario RPG (fun colorful Mario RPG, SNES)
Crusader Kings (High Strategy, PC)
Europa Universalis Rome + Vae Victus (High Strategy, PC)

I can think of a lot of others, but those are the first that come to mind.

Well, Freedom Fighters has gotten a lot of good press after the fact, so I dunno if it counts. The critics all liked or loved it, besides.

As far as other underrated games, I really enjoyed Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. It played like The Return of the King except taking an evolutionary step upward in a lot of areas. It's a blast to play multiplayer.

Edit: Ooh! I forgot to add the Shadowgate series. It's extremely linear, but it's style of storytelling is awesome in my opinion.

oh, my god, I loved that game to no end, and ran a crazy modded server a while back.
I'm happy that the player run master server is still working 0_0

I keep saying they should put it on Impulse and Steam
