Also have to mention Gaunt's Ghosts and the Inquisitor books by Dan Abnett
Seconded a million times, I read too fast to make it worthwhile actually buying books, but I make an exception for this man.

Lord of the rings, really got me interested in fantasy
The Sharpe series, really got me interested in the Napolionic period, i used to be able to recite the date of each battle in the peninsular campaign
The Eagle series, really got me interested in the Roman period, escpecially the invasion of Britain, really good series that gets better with each new book

Well maybe Wheel of Time series by the great, late Robert Jordan.
I've just started reading the series, and it's shaping up rather nicely
Wait till you are on book 12 and reading your 453rd description on the colour of a dress and exactly how much lace is adorning the garment. Having said that the characters and their development throughout the series is fantastic and kept me interested enough to persevere.

My vote is for the Dark Tower series (Stephen King), but have also recently got into Peter F Hamilton's series: Night's Dawn trilogy and Void trilogy.

I don't read very much actually. But I'm a big fan of Dan Browns work. (Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci code, The lost symbol, Digital Fortress, Deception Point) with Deception Point and Angels and Demons as my personal favorites. I'm aware that many peoble disagree with Dan Brown beeing a good author.

Stick at it, although it gets a bit long winded and difficult to read aroun 8-10,it get amazing again after that. I personally think book 5 is the best in the series.

hey all the dress description and the waste of time that was book 10 is necessary to make the flurries of furious action so much more awesome

Hmm... I have a few! Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. The whole of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, Codex: Alera and The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. All, awesome reads.

Depends really, since I can't claim that one book or series is greater than some of the others I like, it just depends on what I want to read, but Discworld is a series I would always recommend and be more than willing to read, but for single books I would have to go with The Magicians (though a sequel is coming out next summer)

The Witcher. Every book (total of seven) is written perfectly, in a unique, amazing style. Masterpiece.

I wish I could remember the author but the book was called "Please Stop Laughing At Me" and it was just amazingly written. Anyone who was ever tormented as a child for most of their childhood and younger years would be able to relate to this book and there were a few places I admittingly teared up which is usually extremely difficult for me to do with that sort of media.

Eisenhorn and Ravenor by Dan Abnett, though hopefully he'll start work on the Lizzie Bequin trilogy soon so we've got a nice trilogy of trilogies.

When i was younger i LOVED Deltora's Belt.
I still have the Dragons of Deltora on my book case.

Wouldnt the best series EVOR be twilight? or maybe the satanic bible?
