Dawn of War had quite a good intro cinematic
Without a shadow of a doubt this. My browser stopped working right before he raises the banner of awesome. I wished they made more intros like this like in the DOW2 but they didn't for any of the expansions of DOW 1 (excluding the soulstorm expansion cause that was although not being terrible wasn't getting much above that considering they used in game graphics to produce it)

Brian Cox is a god among actors.
Is it normal to watch Killzone cinematics and find yourself wishing that the game let you fight as the Helghast?

Why would I want to side with a bunch of macho jock stereotype space marine dudes when the opposition has Brian Cox, Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone?
Let us not forget that the Helghast also look awesome.

OT: I haven't even played this game but the intro is just awesome.

Come on, people... how many games have a sing-along ballad as their intro?

Other favs from this topic: Soul Calibur 2, Soul Edge, Empire Earth.

I can't believe on the escapist this was missed. Come on guys unskippable did a show on it!

Though there is a section when the intro is broken by gameplay its not the end of it.

This one is reminiscent of the old FF days so I like it

Old game good intro though

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

All those snake skeletons... their flesh must've been tasty.

Well.... Fuck, why not. Maybe because it's new, but I really liked it.

Max Payne 3 had a pretty damn good opening.

Brought the series to the present day generation while remaining it's own thing. And if I may say so myself, a serious Man on Fire vibe going on.

I quite liked the opening cinematic to Starcraft 2 with Tychus.

Also, that Witcher 2 cinematic is absolutely awesome. :)

I choose this because, in my personal opinion, no other RTS has come up with an intro that better establishes it's genre while simultaneously conveying the atmosphere of the game than AOE2.

also nostalgia

Aaand ninja'd. I would say ME3 as well because I feel it's short, sweetsad, and to the point. The Reapers attack (so much death!), you know your mission, get the hell out of there.
And just to clear things up, I consider the scene to be the opening up to where the screen says MASS EFFECT 3 when you leave Earth.

We have a winner here I think, but something that I realised recently concerning the very first scene that annoyed me...

In ME3, why the hell doesn't Miranda (assuming she's still alive) just tell you where Cerberus headquarters is when she's been there?! Seriously, she's stood in that very room in Cronos Station with The Illusive Man, but at no point in all you interactions with her after she's left Cerberus, who have now put a price on her head, does it occur to her to tell you where their mother-fucking base of operations is? Instead, you have to jump through a whole series of hoops, including her planting a tracer on Kai Leng so he'll lead you back to their base. Again, I have to ask why all that is necessary when she already knows where it is and could have just effing told you?! So I guess you could say everything Cerberus gets up to for the whole second half of the game is her fault. Fuck that *****!
You know, I thought the same exact thing when I entered that room in Cronos Station the first time around. It was very much a "what the hell, Miranda?!" moment, but the only explanation I could think of was that it's the same station and TIM just moved it to another Nebula...it's possible?

I'm adding this opening to the mix. I loved how the music was playing and how the Grey Wardens were introduced. Yeah!
For the Grey Wardens!!

[MASS EFFECT 2]
You effing die
Not a chance. I'd put that as a contender for one of the worst openings in a videogame. There's no sense of tension at all. You die in the first ten minutes and then five minutes later you're all up and ready to go again. Nobody is fooled into thinking that Shep is really dead, so what's the point in opening up with that?
I love the Mass Effect games (the first two at least, haven't played the third one yet), but I absolutely agree with you on this. Now, I understand that the intro was supposed to present the Collectors as being the incredibly powerful villains of the game, who you have no chance of defeating, and that portrayal might've worked, if only the Collectors themselves weren't little more than minions, and the series didn't have some much superior villains already established.

OT: Oh, that's a tough one. For me, it would have to be one of those two:

I managed to pause this after 11 seconds. Damn, i hope i can get it tomorrow. The wait is killing me. I`m still hyped after reading almost every review i could find on google.

You managed to pause it right after the theme song played it's opening?

That takes some major willpower.
