That would be a railgun, the original kind.

The Nazis loved Railguns, not so much when the Allies bombed all the railway lines and they couldn't move them anywhere. Here to South Africa in 34 seconds, landing pad not included in price...

on roads it has to be this thing

as you can see it has two wheels side by side, this guy, the creator of the bike, is an 18 year old engineering student at uni, the bike uses the same balance principles as the segway, to move you just tilt your wait forwards or backwards. So freaking awesome.

Bike. I get about 800 equivalent miles per gallon, and it keeps the sitting-in-class-all-day weight off.

The anime film Venus Wars had that very vehicle (only it just had one wheel instead of two side by side). It's cool when science fiction becomes science fact.

I'm going to go with walking. Nothing better. With walking I get to take my time going somewhere. No other mode of transport allows me go as many places and stop wherever I want to just look at things. Plus you can talk to people you run into walking around. That said I'd love to see people in cars pass each other, stop and try to have a window to window conversation.

It was called Dora [http://www.aopt91.dsl.pipex.com/railgun/Content/Railwayguns/German/Dora%20index.htm], a successor to the Big Bertha(s).
If I'm not mistaken it is featured in The Darkness at one point.
