I'm sure there's been multiple threads on the same subject (and I'm sure this thread will join in their obscurity within the next few weeks) but still I figured why not. The Escapist has a large audience that plays pen and paper RPG's so I'm sure there's some wonderful stories out there.

Here's one of my finest moments of combat in a Vampire: The Masquerade chronicle. I was playing a former sumo wrestler named Liu Po Sing who was embraced by a Nosferatu because of his immense size and frightful demeanor. My signature weapon was a 1" thick lead pipe that was filled with powdered lead which delivered a Strength +3 bashing damage. With a strength of 5 and a Potence of 4 (We were playing a low generation game) my damage dice pool was 8, with 4 automatic successes, so even against non-human enemies my weapon was pretty powerful. That doesn't even count the 3-additional points I could add to my strength if I spent blood points, so yeah... my character was stupidly overpowered. I also used a Brinks security truck back door as my shield.

So my ghoul and I were being chased through the sewers by a pack of were-creatures until we got to an area where my door/shield could hold off the ensuing enemies. Without any silver I stood no chance of fighting Gia's children, so I sent my ghoul off to find my family heirloom, a silver teapot my character loved dearly. I was spending blood points like crazy just to hold the door steady, but after a few rounds and some choice willpower points, he came back with the silver teapot. I used my potence to crush the teapot to the tip of my lead pipe, spent more blood to up my strength just enough to push the door out and started jabbing at the were-creatures. Here's a breakdown of what my dice pool was on damage.

Strength = 5 (upped to 8 with my use of blood)
Weapon Damage = Strength +3 (Now 11)
Potence = 4 (Four additional successes to whatever I roll)

So in total I had a damage dice pool of 15... and it was all agg with no fear of botching.

Yeah... my pipe went straight through the head of the first were-creature, killing him in one blow. Let me tell you, as a vampire, dropping a child of Gia in just one attack is pretty impressive, but doing it two more times was one of the most satisfying moments of my entire gaming career. Oh and while I was doing this my character was crying tears of blood for the destruction of his family heirloom, my story teller really liked that little added bonus.

So what are some of your favourite moments in a pen and paper RPG?

When my Imperial Guard were trampled by a barrage of rolling dice, sending tiny soldiers flying everywhere in a torrent of plastic and tears!

Okay, I always lost with Tyranids, but my Tyrannofex (conversion, obviously) tore through a Land Raider, which exploded decimating a Terminator squad nearby and killing 3 scouts. HE LEFT UNSCACTCHED and proceeded to melee Marneus Calgar the next turn.

Guess who won

And how did Chenkov feel about that?!

Hmmm... only one that comes to mind is... actually two:

1. Eldrad Ulthran vs. Carnifex! The farseer wins after two rounds of combat (his spear-chuck and all three attacks hit and wound!)

2. 5 Quins + Kisses vs. 5 THSS AT's... man that was bloody... the Quins won after four rounds of combat thanks to shed loads of 6's!

40k; My Necron Nightbringer (pre-Ward) bested Abbadon the Despoiler in one round of combat.

D&D; I was DMing a game and one of the players was in prison, so he tried to break the door down (Str 18/70ish, 2nd ed game) and failed, after three attempts he tried to open it normally. It seems the guards left his cell unlocked. He sees the big oak door and tries to bash it down, and fails three times. So he tries to open it normally, turns out the guards left it unlocked too. Became something of a running joke in our games; If you can't break it down, it's because it is unlocked.

heroes Unlimited; Designed a power character, absolute monster in close combat, with all skills and bonus he could unleash 12 attacks per turn (forgot how I managed that). First thug I came across, after the damage was calculated, the GM determined all that was left was a red stain on the ground.

KULT Rpg. It's rather dark, horror, Hellraiser like system for "things i witnessed would make your silly Cthulhu hide under the table weeping and uncontrollably laughing at the same time" people. ;)

I was GMing.
Meet Metropolis, ruined city that served as the home of God-creator before he was either cast out or killed. It's more or less this :
http://liveforfilms.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/sci-fi-post-apocalyptic-36436.jpg

...only filled with damned creatures, fallen angels, beings created from flesh, glass and parts of machines.

After long and hard campaign the group of players entered The City which is quite awesome feat in itself. I really can't go into details here, but the prerequisites could be described in one word : abattoir.

Anyway...
- They arrive.
- They form a plan to acquire what they came for.
- They try to put that plan into motion.
- Most of them die horrible, horrrrrrible deaths.
- Two survivors try to return to Earth. Only one manages, only to find out that they all were infected with something very similar to zombie virus.
- He is rescued by some good samaritans only to die in their hands, but not before spreading - unwillingly - the plague.
- With his last dying breaths he says something along the "i'm sorry" line.
- 15 minutes long description of the zombie plague that fulfills typical scenario of Apocalypse.

...and the reception i got was "totally worth it". I'm seldom that proud of myself as i was then.

That's why i won't give up on RPGaming. Ever.

Well, back when I started collecting Tau Empire (after proving pretty dismal with the Space Marines), I faced a friend's army (I think that may have been SMs, or possibly Imperial Guard...). It was only a small fight, 750 points, and he had mostly standard troops with some elite units near the back. The board we were on was a big hill in one corner levelling out opposite, with his deployment zone protected by a river (difficult terrain) and mine protected by rocks (also difficult terrain). There was also a copse of trees just on the edge of my area. Now, I had a Broadside and Crisis suit pair, a unit of Fire Warriors, a Pirahna skimmer, and a large unit of Kroot Warriors. I ended up losing the Pirahna on almost the first turn, luring my enemy forward near the copse. Fortunately, the Kroot have special rules allowing them to shoot further out of trees (difficult terrain), ignore terrain checks, and consolidate right into the trees after close combat. Knowing this, I simply hid my Kroot in the trees and had them fire out without getting into my enemy's range for the entire fight, coming out when necessary to overwhelm the enemy in close combat. Through that, I wiped out most of the enemy force without losing very many Kroot at all, and my Fire Warriors and Battlesuits were easily able to mop up the rest. It was a great victory for me, and a devastating rout for my fallen foe... ;D

Not one of my greatest moments, but one I did thoroughly enjoy roleplaying...

One of the guys I used to play with, started talking to me about this game he was running and that through some unfortunate random rolls and such the group he was running was steamrolling through dragons and anything he threw in their path. So he said he wanted to bring me to help even things out for him.

I started out with a level 1 thief and boosted him up to about the groups level (highest was 17). The reason the DM gave the group was that I was there because they were bitching about how all the dungeons and chests were loaded with traps and they were tired of getting poisoned, burned, etc. Initially I was welcomed with open arms and got a fairly nice set of daggers to dual wield.

With the trust of the team earned I set about enacting the secret plan. The DM told the group that the city guard were seeking their help with a baffling series of murders. As the team began to follow the killings I started my mission; To kill them off.

First to die was the team's Cleric (no more heals, cure poison/disease), I "helpfully" put forth that the killer knew we were onto them had started to target us. This had them a little on edge.

Next was the Ranger (he had Herbalism and could create natural antidotes). I suspected that they were becoming suspicious of me so I faked an attack on myself before their characters could confront me. My Assassin's Guild had the local Apothecary in their pocket so I was able to be given the antidote to the poison I used on myself.

Following a lead provided by some local thieves I knew, we raided a base of a rival guild under the impression it was the lair of the Assassins who had been killing us and committing the murders. I "failed" a detect traps check and one of the mages was killed by a spring loaded spear that was poisoned. The other died when I successfully made a sneak attack and stabbed him in the back with the very dagger they gave me.

The groups fighter/meatshield was going to be a tougher egg to crack. I knew there was no way my usual method would work, he had a ring that provided immunity vs poison. He did however have a Cloak of Displacement. I was able to swap it out for a cursed version, the next time he used it, the curse triggered and turned him in to an actual Displacer Beast which his foe was able to kill with reasonable ease. Watching him play as a Displacer Beast in combat was amusing.

I don't think they ever worked out I was the one who killed off their characters and forced them to re-roll new ones. Like I said, not my greatest moment, but one I did enjoy roleplaying.

40K with my Tau army versus a Black Templar chapter, 2000 points.

My friend brought a terminator heavy list, so my intention was to pick as many of them off until they broke my lines of fire warriors. He rolled forward in the first two turns with a squad of Terminators inside a Land Raider, I take pot shots with my Broadsides but can't take it down. Land Raider reaches my line, ready to unload next turn, my opponent forgot to take into account that I had decided to bring EMP grenades as I had points left over.

These guys glance on a 4 and 5, penetrate on a 6. I rolled to penetrate then destroy it, dishing out some wounds on the Termys inside.

The squad of fire warriors were soon munched by the angered Space Marines, but blowing up a Land Raider in a last ditch assault is pretty badass. No one ever expects the Tau to charge...

Haha my absolute favorite moment in table top gaming was in a bar. We went into a bar to interogate a bandit chief. Our DM was being a dick so the bandit chief wasn't telling us anything. Frusterated I grabbed his head, rolled a perfect score and slammed his head into the table shattering it into peices (the table).

A long fight ensued, the bar burned down and we lived happily ever after.
