Avatar and Titanic definitely, James Cameron is overrated in general.

Anything Aaron Sorkin writes.

Tim Burton and the like: Movies that keep pointing at how "quirky" they are, it's just insufferable to me.

I guess Top Gun. It's amazing that such a broad, actiony, regular sports drama can just not keep my attention at all.

A bunch of these were inspired as I read the topic.

A couple of people have said the didn't like Alien. But nobody's said they didn't like Aliens. Well, I didn't. I didn't love Alien exactly, but Aliens did a number of criminal things, most notably trivializing the Xenomorphs. They made zombies look threatening. Actually, if I really wanna get people pissed off...I thought Alien 3 was quite good.

Edward Scissorhands. Yeah, I didn't like that at all. I do not think I have ever felt less emotion at any time in my life.

Ghost in the Shell. I think you're supposed to have watched this when it came out. Or watched the remastered version or whatever. I did neither of those. None of the ideas seemed particularly new or interesting, and it was very...stripped down. In all senses of the phrase. It was good at hiding the fact that it had a low budget (either that or it had a large budget and they spent it all on body pillows of the Major). Also the dub was bad, but just looking at it I get the sense that the original was similarly flat (it happens).

I haven't seen many "great" movies so I guess that's it.

Titanic
IT just wasn't my kind of movie, but I was dragged to see it by my mom and her friend. I nearly fell asleep on it a couple of times and only showed interest once the boat started to sink. After it went down, I was bored again. I just found it to be a very dull movie.

The recent Dark Knight movies
Because they try to incorporate so much "realism" into these movies (which I think was the point), I found them to be very boring to watch. I thought the first one was ok. The second one, I didn't care for. The third one, I didn't bother to see. I kinda miss the fun, cartoony batman. I'm not really into this dark gritty stuff.

Let me agree with the previous poster who said 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Maybe it doesn't speak well of me or my attention span, but I could only get an hour into the movie before being bored out of my skull. I still acknowledge that it was a great movie, but I certainly didn't like it. Seriously, Kubrick could have edited at least 45 minutes out of it and conveyed the same message.

Napoleon Dynamite. Hated the characters. Hated the jokes. Hated that stupid little dance in the middle of the story.
This is about the first I can understand. I don't agree. I put this on my top 5 comedies since 2000. But soooo many people either love or hate this movie and there are virtually no people in between. You come down on the hate side. At least that is credible. But Dark Knight? 2001? Scar Face, PULP FICTION!?!?! Are you f'n kidding me?!?!? It is like some people don't even like movies.

Not sure if you'd call them 'great' (well in a comedy sense) but I never liked The Big Lebowski or The Hangover

I always heard that TBL was this funny as hell cult classic, like, one of the best of all time. But when I watched it was just...lifeless. Oh it had it's moments, John Goodman is brilliant and everyone acts their roles fantastically, but The Dude as the main character is just so uninteresting, and because it was all focused around him the movie as a whole was just boring. I found myself just drifting while watching and not really paying attention.

And The Hangover was just unfunny. I don't know wether it was just me or that everyone had hyped it up as "TEH FUNAYEST EVA!!", but it was just lame and predictable. It felt uninspired, a great premise, but just unoriginal.

A lot of people have told me how great they think The 5th Element is but I cant stand that load of crap. Maybe I just know people with bad taste in movies.

Being John Malkovich.

I recognize the good acting and everything that's good and original about it, but I personally just can't stand that fucking movie. I watched it once and I hated it and I can't bring myself to watch it again.

I'd have to say The Godfather, it's not bad and the actors give exemplary performances, but...well I had to watch it in two sittings, it's just impossible for me to sit through, and I sat through the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy back-to-back once, it doesn't draw me in the way a good movie should and as a result I find it pretty much unwatchable

The Incredibles.
It annoyed the crap out of me that Mr. Incredible got sued for saving the guys life at the beginning, when he should be protected by Good Samaritan and Imminent-Peril laws

I never understand people who say this. I couldn't stop watching the Godfather; to this day, I think it's the best movie I've ever seen.

For me, it's Quentin Tarantino. I think all of his movies are self-indulgent and absolutely devoid of substance. His movies have nothing to say and I detest them. I can't understand how anyone watches his films without just wanting to smack him for being such a smug, "look how cool I am" tool.

I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this, but the Lord of the Rings series. All those movies almost put me to sleep.

Citizen Kane.

While I can appreciate it on a technical and filmmaking level (I had to watch it while doing film studies at uni) I didn't find it enjoyable at all. I found it dull and somewhat depressing. Not really big on downer movies in general, but this one just went on and on and I can't help but wonder why it's considered the "Greatest movie of all time"?

Ironically, my FAVOURITE movie of all time is the one I call "the Citizen Kane of anime", Satoshi Kon's Millenium Actress. Similar story concept, but far more exciting, epic, amusing and heartwarming.

2001, boring as fuck, I am not asking for nasty aliens but if Dave could have more than half a shred of a personality so we could give a flying fuck when his life is threatened

Critics love Tarantino because his movies are all homages to classic cinema, critics love classic movies
