Might want to spoiler warning that shit... Some people haven't played MGS4 yet (not me, but other people I know).
Yes, it was a pretty epic battle.

The giant asshole thing in Dead Space. The first really big one.

It was tough dodging those clumps of poo it chucked at you but very, very fun.

If you've played Batman:Arkham Asylum, you'll know why...

Best friggin' boss ever.
Indeed. Pity about the final boss fight though... that was beyond lame.

The most fearsome, devious, powerful boss in all the Metal Gear series.

So mighty is it that you can't avoid it, so powerful that no weapon can harm it, so monumental to the plot it's theme music is the game's theme music, and so difficult that nothing short of ultimate endurance and will power shall let you see the rest of the game.

That's rights, Metal Gear Solid 3's The Ladder.

What about the great and invulnerable The Frog Toy?

Old Monk from Demons souls. Besides being really creepy, he summons another random player to fight you. Really cool idea imo.

I hate that old monk, he's easy enough, but he keeps stealing all my blue phantoms! I need those fools to help me with maneater, I'm sick of soloing it!! (not that I can't, I'm on playthrough 4 and I've soloed him all four times, but I hate that som'*****)

I've been trying to come up with a good answer, and I honestly can't think of a favorite non-final boss except for one I can't put a name on... it was in ratchet and clank, the first one for the ps3, you did the entire fight on grind rails, it was pretty awesome.

Yeh, sorry about that. I assumed most people had played or knew about that already.

If I can get away with an MMO answer the opera event in wow was great. It is a random encounter of either Romulo and Juliana, The crone (wizard of oz), or the big bad wolf.

If that doesn't count then I will go with the Twin wizard fight at the end of the spirit temple in Ocarina of Time.
Wizard of Oz.... you mean that SNES game?
No. The 3 encounters you can get are based on Romeo and Juliet, The Wizard of Oz, and Red Riding Hood
And that's in WoW? Huh.... That sounds interesting...
Oh my god...Romulo and Julianne in Kara...good times.

Hmm... my personal favorite was that Colossus that lived in a building the looked like the inside of a giant stone bucket. It took me quite a while to work out how to kill that wall-climbing, fire-breathing little bugger. Oh, this was from Shadow of the Colossus obviously.
