Not sure about greatest ever but I'm waiting for the day they put Powerblade on the Wii Shop. For some reason I just loved that game :p

How retro are we talking? I don't really consider anything from N64/Playstation/Dreamcast retro. They're older but not quite retro. So, that being said, I would say Megaman. Honestly, awesome gameplay, awesome music, it's very difficult but not crushingly so. If you have never played it I would suggest you try it out ASAP.

Typhoon 2001. It's a remake of some older game, but it kicks ASS. So retro, and so fun. Indie ftw.

Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, F-Zero, Star Fox...

Earlier than that? Tetris. Tetris is as far back as I go.

Dude, are you serious? Such a vague question. Probably my entire NES, SNES, and Genesis library. I would rather play Megaman 3 or Streets of Rage over 99.9% of the games released in the last decade anyday.

I'm in the video games club at my collage and I'm the outcast because all they play are the newest installments of Halo or Tekken. And I'm the youngest one there, too! Kids these days...

It may also be because I grew up with the NES, but IDK.

Oh, and the PSOne, N64, and Dreamcast were kickass too!

Megaman 2, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy II(IV), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past, Metroid, Super Mario Bros. 3, Castlevania, Super Mario World, too many others.

There's just way too many games from before '95 to decide what is my favorite is

Goldeneye 007 for n64 would probably be my favorite retro game. Even though it was made in 1997 I believe it still qualifies as a classic industry-builder which may not hold up well today, but was the greatest thing since sliced bread in the day.

Some say Halo spawned the popularity of console FPS's, I say nay, it was Goldeneye

I was only born in 1990 so I think my experience of truly retro games is quite limited. The oldest games I can remember playing are things like Doom, old school Prince of Persia and Star Wars: Dark Forces (released in 1995, so it counts! Ha!), but, by the time I was really playing games on my own, it was later games like Quake, or PS1 titles like Tekken and Jumping Flash.

No offence to the true experts of retro games, but my vote goes to Dark Forces.

Easily my favorite retro game would be starfox 64. (I consider anything pre-2000's retro) That game is the absolute perfect mix of amazing gameplay and hilariously bad writing and voice acting. "Sorry to jet, but I'm in a hurry!" lol

My favorite game from before 1995 is Quest for Glory: So You Want to be a Hero?, which was released in 1989. It's the most charming game I've ever come across.

What a classic.

Off the top of my head and skimming this topic my favorite games before and on 1995 are Tetris, Gabriel Knight, Quest for Glory series, Darksun: Shattered Lands (even though I don't think I ever won the freaking final battle.), and Chrono Trigger/
