Aliens, seriously that movie was so many different levels of awesome, a great setting, aesthetic, style and a strong charismatic female lead..... seriously a great cinematic piece of work in the sci fi genre.

Agreed.
I have really never seen another sequel that has done so much so well- not to mention work as a standalone movie itself. And the more and more i look at the movie, i realize that it did quite a lot for the film industry and just changed so much about sci-fi and action itself.

I enjoyed Death Wish II. Death Wish III was ridiculous but totally worth it for Charles Bronson running around and shooting punks with a 50cal machine gun.

New Moon!!!

I'm serious, it's the best comedy I've ever seen.

... What, it isn't a comedy?....... Wow, then I just saw the worst movie ever.

Back to the Future 2.
Empire Strikes Back.
Godfather 2.
Patlabor 2 (I officially hate you all, because I know none of you watched this great movie).
Kill Bill vol 2.
NOT Dark Knight (sorry, I thought it inferior to Batman Begins).

Terminator 2, Back to the Future 2 (my favorite of the trilogy, it just gets the most of the whole time-travel-concept), The Dark Knight and, if you count it as a sequel, Desperado.

Also, Aliens (although i liked the first one better)
As did I. I never got the Aliens love. It's a good popcorn film, but the first movie felt more genuinely creepy and had better acting performances. Besides, so many films/games have ripped off Aliens that even the original is starting to look a bit stale.

One thing I REALLY hated was the destruction of the concept of the Alien as a lone, vastly superior predator, stalking its prey. In Aliens, suddenly the Aliens are Zerg-rushing n00bs who die with a couple bullets to the chest.

For all its flaws, at least Alien 3 went back to the "one Alien" idea.

i'm not gonna say LOTR or star wars because they're one HUGE movie in 3 parts.

godfather 2
spiderman 2
dark knight
x-men 2
toy story 2
die hard 2/3

with the possible exception of the die hard movies (i love all 3 equally, and there definitely wasn't a gut-wrenchingly bad 4th one) all these were not only amazing films, but superior to their predecessors. x-men 2 in particular is laughably better than 1 or 3.

many sequels thend be shabby and ride with fame of the original movie. i was gonna say bourne identity, but then again it's just "part of bigger movie". it could be standalone but atleast the 2 last could be said to be just one movie.

personally i believe that too many sequels are just 'fanservice' and do not offer anything new to the story.

Terminator 2 and The Empire Strikes Back

Although I'm giving Revenge of the Sith an honorable mention for taking everything that was good about the first two Prequel films, and none of the bad things about the first two Prequel films. Definite jump in quality.

Another one for Aliens.

I swear that film can't go five minutes without creating either a new TV trope or an internet MEME, seriously just watch it and count all the things you've seen/heard before but in a newer film or in BLOCK CAPITALS ALL OVER TEH INTARWEBZ. The only sequel I can think of that's arguably more influential than it's predecessor.

Also.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

DIE HARD!!! love all the movies... Especially the 4th one. Pity about them not giving him his well known saying within the 3rd and 4th. Kinda spoilt them slightly for me.

Others i liked were: The Matrix Trilogy, Harry Potter (up until 6), Pirates Of Carribean...oh, ive forgotten my entire list... oh well.
What the Hell are you talking about? In every Die Hard movie, when Bruce Willis kills the bad guy in the end, he says it.

I'm glad to see Aliens & Terminator 2 on here because those were two of the best sequels ever made, period. Dark Knight came pretty close, but seriously, anyone who disagrees on this either dislikes action movies, or grew up in the 2000's raised on ADHD inducing special effects movies and terribly cliche dialogue. If you don't fall into any of these two catagories, then you need to rent them now before you begin to argue.

Actually I just watched Aliens, the special edition, a few nights ago and I'm amazed to see that it's still just as kick ass as I remember it was 10 years ago. It's rare for a movie these days to have such well written dialogue and deep thought that goes into the action. Who cares about all the special effects with CGI these days, Aliens and T2 pulled off their epic stories in 1986 and 1991 respectively, with limited special effects technology, but their amazing attention to character development and action earned them millions of fans as a result.

Directors today really need to analyze why the old movies were so good in the first place before they continue to screw up the new movies, like Terminator 4. There are too many new movies and sequels today that are just special effect borefests.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

[/thread]

Seriously though, Aliens and Terminator 2 are up there as well. But no movie can ever beat Empire. Ever.

Toy Story 2?? Sir, are you mad?! I must disagree, Toy Story 1 is a much better film in my opinion.
