Are we talking about video game music, i.e. music specifically written for a game or just songs in games?

Since GTA3 and games with radios, and those guitar games, quite a lot of 'proper' songs have featured in games.

If it's that open then I'd say Motorhead's Killed by Death from Scarface: The World Is Yours.

Here are some great tracks from some of my favorite games:
The Opened Way - Shadow of the Colossus. Maybe one of the most epic songs I've ever heard which turns your experience into one of triumph over desperation.
The Scars of Time - Chrono Cross. This is the opening theme of the game, and coupled with the amazing visual assault that accompanies this song, you cannot watch/listen to it and not want to play this game.
Still Alive - Portal. Of course Still Alive made it because it is a: hilarious and b: very clever. It fits perfectly with the game and has become something of an anthem to gamers everywhere.

There are likely others but those stick out especially.

Fallout 3 used the old music really well,It gave it character: Here was all these crooners talking about problems in olden America which are then trivial (Due to the fact your world has been NUKED)

The owls are the hootiest, the pigs are the snootiest
The loves the loveliest, The gals the bubbliest (?)

I have my share of complaints about Fallout 3 but there is certainly some sort of corny insane brilliance with listening to that music while driving a spike through a ghouls head.

Personally I have to go with the entire God of War soundtrack. As well as Mercenaries. Nothing like stomping on puppy face with some heavy brass going or bum-rushing a tank as an orchestra swells.

Kinda hard to beat the Main Theme to the Legend of Zelda series.

Radical Dreamers from Chrono Cross - I'd consider learning to play guitar for just that one song. I swear it's the most soothing thing ever written.
