Has anyone played this game? It's a remake of the 90s grim fandango, according to metacritic it's supposed to be pretty good (84 metacritic score). I wanted some independent opinions though, the original was one of my fav games ever. Does it stay true to the original?

I've bought it and played it. And I too loved the original (still have my PC copy lying around somewhere).
It's the same game. Just... looking better, and handling somewhat better as well.
If you liked it then, there's no reason you won't like this enhanced version just as much, if not even more.

Own it because it was next to impossible to make the old one play on my computer for ...countless issues. There are some subtle visual effects and a very nice orchestral soundtrack. You can change the control scheme from "modern" to the old one (they even contacted the original modder of the alternate controls) and some texture and model changes. But it's really the same game.
