I think he's plain annoying.

I've done exactly 75% of the total game, only a few loose ends of story left to tie off. So far his character hasn't budget an inch, he is a constant raving loony toon. Michael goes through a midlife crisis and Franklin hits the big time but Trevor just gets richer.

There is a nugget of hope but I won't say more than that, as to avoid spoilers.
I respect that about the guy, actually. Yeah, he's a mentally deranged ez-air force meth-head/dealer and gun-runner...but he knows EXACTLY what he is and where he's at in the world, that makes him a 100% straight-shooter that gives respect if you're respectable and doesn't allow anyone to disrespect him. He's got issues, but he fully embraces the those issues and integrates them into his personality rather than being a repressed nutjob like Michael.

Trevor just got the "he's so wacky" personality type card, there is nothing to him, everything he does comes down to 'cos he wants to. Micheal is an understandable person, he is an adrenaline junkie of illegal sorts but wants to settle down with wife and kids... He is caught between a rock and a hard place.

I've heard people say they don't like deadpool and wolverine 'cos they are made to be fan favourites, I think Trevor has gotten the same treatment, except Trevor has the charisma of Jason vorhees mixed with woody woodpecker.

Gives respect if you respectable? Where did you get that from? He bullies everybody he meets, you meet him him and instantly kills the boyfriend of the woman you're nailing, Ron and Waine (?) are treated like shit, locks the two Chinese in an ice box, breaks a couple up after trashing there house, constantly argues with Micheal (can't let anything go) etc.

At which point did he show anybody any respect? That's right, when his character falls apart and you do strangers and freaks missions.

If Trevor was the main character that you have to be all the time I would probably like him a lot less. I do like him as a character though. He's crazy and unstable, but he isn't [is]stupid[/i] which I think makes him extremely interesting. He scares the other characters, and he KNOWS he scares the other characters. He's definitely crazy, but he doesn't make any attempts to course correct because it works in his favor. If anything he plays it up.

A lot of people don't like him because he isn't relatable, but I don't think a character has to be relatable to be a good character, as long as you aren't supposed to relate to them. With the other characters being much more relatable, it's something that makes him more interesting. Also any character painted with any kind of humane likability makes no sense as soon as the player decides to go on an unprovoked killing spree.

I played the game through to completion and while Trevor did shock me at first, I quickly grew to like him as an intelligent Psychopath. Michael is my favorite still, but Trevor gets points for the turn around. One can look at Trevor and immediately say violent redneck, impulsive sociopath, and whatever other bad thing you can possibly call him. Yea, he's violent, he's depraved, he's downright crazy and psychotic but by no means is he an idiot; and I love that about him.

With regards to the guy he curb-stomps when you first meet him: that guy was a member of The Lost, and Trevor was on his way to go kill the entire biker gang to begin with, might as well kill that one right there and then.

He treats Franklin with respect because Franklin earns his respect by proving that he's someone that Trevor can count on and by the fact that he hasn't done anything to cross Trevor. That's what I mean when I say if you're worthy of his respect, he'll treat you with respect.

With regards to the people he treats like shit: they aren't worthy of his respect. Ron is a crazed conspiracy theorist that Trevor apparently trusts enough to run his "business" while Trevor's away, clearly their relationship isn't all bad. Wade is just a sniveling little meth-head toady who can't even put a proper sentence together. Wade's cousin is a sniveling little pussy-whipped toady who isn't worthy of his respect either because he lets his girlfriend run his life and hold him back. Neither one of them have the guts to actually stand up for themselves, and that leaves the door open for Trevor to just walk all over them. He was trying to get Wade's cousin to stand up for himself when his girlfriend finally got home but then she went psycho and pulled a gun on Trevor...obviously that wasn't going to end well for her.

The Chinese guys get thrown into a freezer because he's trying to prevent them from getting shot to pieces in a gun battle that is about 5 seconds away from happening because he's hoping they'll give him a big contract and improve his business. When they say they're giving it to the redneck family instead, he goes over there and takes them down. 1: For pissing him off and stealing his contract, and 2: to remove them as competition in general...just like how he took out the biker gang so that he'd be the biggest gun-runner in town.

Everything he does he does for a reason and he gets things done. Nothing he does is "just cause he's crazy", as you put it, except for some of the random scenes you see with him when you switch to him. As for not letting things go with Michael, can you blame him? Michael was Trevor's best friend, but he cut a deal with the FIB, got their other best friend, Brad, killed, and had faked his own death making Trevor go through grieving and mourning for the loss of his best friend...only to find out that he's still alive and well, sitting on a fat pile of cash in Vinewood. Can you blame the guy for feeling betrayed to the very core? Can you blame him for wanting to rip Michael's head off and refusing to see him as anything but a lying, backstabbing rat? Trevor is a lot more complex than some people give him credit for.

I have grown attached to Trevor over the course of the game. I still like Franklin and Michael more but I think Trevor is pretty awesome too.

Heavy GTA V spoilers Don't look until you have completed the game:

I don't think I can ever forgive Trevor for killing Johnny though. After playing through The Lost and Damned Johnny became one of my favorite characters and Trevor killing him in GTA V still angers me. Plus, it feels like Rockstar completely ruined his character too. Him becoming addicted to meth went against everything he stood for in GTA IV.

I hated Johnny, he was a boring stupid character and I gave Trevor more points just for ending him. As for him becoming a meth head, he did go through some messed up stuff over the course of his dlc. I never got the sense that he had a good ending even then.

That and he's a pretty funny troll, too. At one point I switched over to him and the switch-over cutscene featured some lady trying to take a picture of some landmark building and he keeps jumping in the way. Or another time when I switched over to him and he was picking a fight with two body builders, screaming at one of them "YOU THINK I DON'T RECOGNIZE MY OWN UNDERWEAR?!" :3
Haha, I had one where he was leaning over a rail giving a women crap about being willing to eat a mans meat and yet still calling herself a vegetarian... another where he woke up on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere passed out in a womans dress like an old granny would wear, blue flowers and all. And one sloped up against the unicorn, with a limo crashed into and half ontop of a dumster... Oh and I gave him A walter white cut complete with gray tinted shades... He woke up on the beach in his underware in front of a bunch of dead Lost gang members says "guess i'm last man standing, again!" then jumps in a speed boat and takes off... hahhahaha!

Honestly I started enjoying Trevor a lot more when I thought to myself: Hey he's the way everyone says that everyone plays GTA. Blowing crap up, extreme violence, reckless driving, etc. etc.

I started to get it all when I realized that Michael was Vice City like character. Franklin was San Andreas like character. And Trevor... was the player.

Yeah, I mentioned getting the one where he wakes up on a mountain in a dress, talking about wanting to find the deer that pissed on him so he could eat its liver.

I've gotten that one you were talking about with him waking up on a beach surrounded by dead bodies and saying "Guess I'm the last one standing again". I haven't gotten the one with the crashed limo though, I'll have to try and get that one. :3

Another one I liked was him waking up at some scenic mountain view tourist trap, saying "Why does Crystal turn me into such an outdoorsman?" Naturally he was wearing nothing but his dirty underwear. :p

One that I didn't particularly like was him waking up on a rooftop with absolutely no way to get back down without jumping off...that's how I got the stat "Highest Free-Fall Survived" up to 27.63 ft. xP

If you didn't understand why he's messed up it's just because you haven't put two and two together, and or have no experience with that kind of life. Starting out with mental illness then, going through that kind of childhood, with that kind of parental experience and upbringing, toss in likely social circles, "friends" the amount of value he places on such things, then the event's that follow... Sprinkle with poor and likely unavoidable coping choices. The "can't take it if you don't know it even exists" kind of unavoidable, drugs and violence in this case. Throw in that this is the only kind of life he's ever known, and you have Trevor Philips.

Trevor was a bit inconsistent at times, but he was definately the life of the party.

His best moment for me was undeniably when he meets up with Mary-Ann, the recurring middle-aged exercise junkie.

I liked Trevor because he seems to be a super over-the-top version of me. Someone who's smart enough to see that the world isn't really worth caring about, but has at heart still a moral center. He's pitiable rather than despicable to me. It's made him a loner and a sarcastic bastard. I can relate to that.

When I read some of the reviews (Including the Escapist one), I honestly wondered if I?d be able to stomach this game, mainly because of Trevor and other plot things explained in the review.

But, honestly, Trevor's one of my favourite characters in a game in a fair while. He reminds me of Uehara, the gangster that Takeshi Kitano plays in Boiling Point. They're both psychopathic eccentrics. Though Trevor is probably not half as misogynistic as Uehara, at least not as far as I got in the game.

Also, the
torture scene with him in wasn?t half as bad as I was expecting, nothing worse than you would get in 24 or Reservoir Dogs, not half as bad like Saw or Hostel.

My favourite time in the game so far involves Trevor, it's not part of the plot but it was so funny I thought I'd spoiler it in case I ruin it for someone else:
When I switched to Trevor once he was on a scooter, following another person on a scooter and yelling 'Hey! Scooooter Buddy! Where we going, Scoooooter buddy?'

Can?t remember the last time I laughed that hard at something in a computer game.

The only thing wrong with Trevor is that they didn't get Walton Goggins to be his voice actor. That would've been the utterly perfect cherry on top of the cake of great writing.

Not that the actual voice actor isn't great, but all I can hear and see is Goggins whenever Trevor appears on screen. It's the same with how Michael is straight up Michael Madson. I can't not hear it.

I don't think that word means what you think it means, but yes, Trevor embodies the hate and rage you hold against modern western society. Not only that, he is a man who does what he wants and only goes up.

He is Tyler Dirden, the Joker, the 1930's PI investigator.

He is the Ubermensch and we should all follow him to glory.

Michael's a self-pitying sociopath. He's the kind of guy who would beat his wife and then be all "SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO?" That's what got him in trouble in the first place. I mean, not literally beating his wife, because to my knowledge he doesn't, but....

How is that relatable? He's pond scum, just pond scum with a nice house.
micheal an trevor are 2 sides of the same coin, the only difference is that trevor accepts who he is and micheal hides behind the facade of his big house in the hills

I personally like trevor because he doesnt follow societies arbitrary rules. he does care about wealth, the heists are all about the game. Trevor doesnt give a fuck what others think of him and he does exactly what he wants but he is also very loyal. I can see a lot of myself in trevor even though i hate to admit it. In essence he is a free thinking rebel which i admire a lot

this is why trevor is so popular

Hello again Escapist from my GTA sleep.

After playing GTA V for over a week now, I am slowly liking Trevor more and more. I don't know if its the voice acting or the fact he is bat shit nuts and can be super sarcastic (I am a very sarcastic person). I know he has many bad points and no morals but just something about him is fun and interesting and different to other characters portrayed in other video games.

Really what do you all think and please no spoilers as I know many haven't played the game just yet.
I wsont care for Trevor that much, but I'd be lying if I didnt love his antics (well, most of them).

Course, this could be because this game has this dick in there...

...to compare with.

*Edit*

Plus, how can I hate a guy that ties some dude to the supports of the pier while discussing the bullshit that is trikkle-down economics and waking up in the middle of LS in nothing but underwear, than go on a heist?
