Why dont they get off their asses and make a game like grand theft auto thats a map of the whole world and unlimited travel with all characters being online players.

Because that would lag like no other, also it would be so large in size that it would be near impossible to distribute on a disk, or download via digital distribution.

Then you have the bug checking stage, can you imagine how many things would go unnoticed?

Also, that would cost so much to develop, they'd have to charge us lots to get any profit.

, making all the places, running a server to support that many players in a continuous zone, then just making the scripts, but you could go try life, i heard there is a free demo out

Probably for the same reason that you don't get off of your arse and make a game like grand theft auto that's a map of the whole world with unlimited travel and all the characters being on-line players.

Too much work.

Because that would be extremely expensive, time consuming, and almost definitely unprofitable?

I don't know if this was supposed to be an ironic criticism of gamers' expectations or an actual question, but I'm annoyed either way.

Bing, we have a winner.
Programming ANYTHING that size would take, atleast a lifetime*

[small]*Might be exaggerating a bit. Or maybe not..[/small]

And let's not forget the amount of load screens it would have. And the amount of bugs/glitches would be MUCH higher.

And furthermore:

Show respect, dude. They work their asses to the bone to provide Triple A games for us to enjoy. They are probably one of the hardest working companies in the industry, one would imagine.

And you though Crysis was hard to run on a decent system. GTA:W (GTA:World) would just take too much to run. xBoxes would probably die the second the game loaded. Oh, and it would be on 10 discs just like the good old days.

I think we're more likely to see one unified world government forming next tuesday and giving out free mechs to everyone.

YOU ARE RIGHT.

Get to work on it today. Spend the rest of your life making a game as shitty as gta-- but make it an mmo, so everyone bitches about how OP grenade launchers are.

Can I have a green one? Pretty please?

OT: Because it would take at least 40 years to programme, thats with the entire EA game studios working on it (thank you saydaman), cost Trillions of dollars, require a super computer to run, and would get destroyed by the media.

It already exists. I hear it was made by a company called Big Bang which may or may not have been published by God, sort of like Spore meets the Sims meets Bethesda's style of first person perspective RPGs.

I hear it's pretty good, it even has sex scenes although they can be hard to unlock depending on your character.

Because I like GTA as Singleplayer games, GTA4 multiplayer is as far as it should get (simple modes that dont take much time)
