Why dont they get off their asses and make a game like grand theft auto thats a map of the whole world and unlimited travel with all characters being online players.
1. I hate online playing so....NO
2. We do not have the technology
3. You wouldn't have the money to buy it
4. Your expectations are far too low why not go for the stars introduce space travel maybe even try time travel.

-Disclaimer-
Number 4 is scarcasm I say there is no flaming or other evil trollish behaviour

Because it still isn't a good idea. Do you even know anything at all about game development?

But seriously this wouldent be hard to do, I know its hard but I mean, they could do it, the allready have the "buildings" just add the same buildings in a randomised order in new cities spread around, add some new shit here and there to make it look different, surround it with a huge empty desert, maybe some cactuses, a few big straight roads for "high speed cruising in a convertible" and youre done.
He means the entire world. What you just described was basically western USA. They would need to make huge moutains around Canada. Rainforests that are the actual size of there real life counter parts which could vary as we cut down a large portion everyday. They would need to make small villages located in some poorer countries. They would need to make the Favela's Brazil. They would need to make Cities the size of Boston,New York and Chicago.

And this is just the western hemisphere. The Eastern would has so much land that it would be impossible to load it onto a single disc.

Because that would lag like no other, also it would be so large in size that it would be near impossible to distribute on a disk, or download via digital distribution.
They could put it on 14 DVDs like Duke Nukem Forever (Zero Punctuation reference)

Ohh, well it would be kinda pointless.. it takes like 2 days to drive across America, so unless you had airplanes..

So your saying using airplanes to travel throughout the game. Now the problem with that is that it would be a cheap excuse to initate a loading screen. If every building will be accessible you would have to go through a loading screen before exploring. Basically you would spend more time waiting for the game to load then actually playing.

And you though Crysis was hard to run on a decent system. GTA:W (GTA:World) would just take too much to run. xBoxes would probably die the second the game loaded. Oh, and it would be on 10 discs just like the good old days.
xD
**now loading GTA:world** 3...2...1..BOOOOmmm... **your computer has exploded**
