Once again Escapist hello to you,

Reports from certain newspapers, say that most people will skip work or school to play GTA5 when its released in less than 24hrs. Is anyone here going to do the same or just wait until the weekend?

Don't worry your bosses won't be looking at this thread if you are planning to skip work.

EDIT: I've already seen people in the UK do it for what ever new Call of Duty that comes out, FIFA game and the very insane "line up for weeks in the freezing cold" for what ever new Apple device that comes out every six months so I wouldn't be surprised.

First post - another lurker comes out of hiding.

I'm at work right now reading about GTA instead of working. Having pre-ordered the game and expecting it to be delivered tomorrow, I can definitely feel a cold coming on. *sniff*

Depending on the quality of the game these sniffles could easily turn into the flu, and a two week work hiatus. After all, life is for living, not working - and living for me involves nicking cars and blowing the heads off shopkeepers. Virtually, of course.

Why would you do that? Skipping school I can understand since it's kids we're talking about but surely as an adult you have enough patience and commonsense to wait a few hours/days for a game?

Priorities, amirite?

Of course not. I preordered the Collector's Edition weeks ago and full well plan to play the hell out of it this week. I too, am going to the midnight release tonight at my local GameStop.

Am I going to skip class? No. As Tizzy said above, it's much more satisfying to go do your work (be that actual work or schoolwork) and then come home after a long day and play your brand new copy of GTAV.

I understand that people are excited, but come on. Life comes first, people. It's just a game.

I wouldn't expect someone to "skip" work to play a game on its release day, but if someone was to take a vacation day then I wouldn't care. As long as you aren't shirking your responsibilities for your hobbies.

Every time a new installment in a major franchise comes out I see people talking about planning their vacation time around it, so I assume that it's true (although I would hope that most people aren't actually just "skipping" work, because then they deserve to get fired).

I don't get it myself - I'd rather use my vacation time to actually go on holiday or get some real things done - but if it makes you happy who am I to judge, right?

why cant people just wait till they get home? its really not that big a deal. If my GTA comes tomorrow then ill have to wait till after work to play it and after waiting itll only make me anticipate it even more

That depends which review they read. :p

Seriously: Sure. People skipped work/school to play Portal 2, and GTAV has even more hype than that.

If I were interested in GTA V (which I'm not), had something that it comes out on (which I don't), and didn't have a class that I simply have to attend (which I don't), then yes, I'd skip to play GTA V.

You clearly don't know my boss...

That said, I haven't been at my current job 3 weeks yet and do feel comfortable skipping it for games at this time.

If I do get GTA 5, I will wait until the evening to play. Now, I have in the past, skipped school to play games, Skyrim being the most recent case in memory.

Nope. I don't like letting my colleagues down and there is at least one person coming in with a hangover tomorrow, so he will be next to useless. I will be picking up my copy after work tomorrow and will play it tomorrow night.

Coincidentally just got two weeks off starting tomorrow (perks of University and all that), so my body is ready.

I wouldn't have skipped work though, there's a certain kind of satisfaction to be had with coming back home from a hard day's work, kicking off your shoes and just collapsing on the couch as your console fires up to play something you've anticipated for a very long time.

I personally think its stupid. To me, games are games because you shouldn't let it interfere with your life.

But it seems like a lot of people are understanding.

you my friend are a modern day hero. Anyone who covers for a hungover colleague is a true hero, its easy enough to grass on them or but you cover for them and they will return the favour

Im on courses at work at the minute. i cant really have anytime off or i might miss a vital part of the course

I don't have to skip work... Work is skipping ME!

But honestly I don't think I would. Afterall, I didn't skip that sushi dinner at Shabu Shabu for Mass Effect 2.

Now, if it was like... The Last Guardian or something...
