You can see what you get from your GW1 titles right now, using the calculator put up on the guild wars 2 website : http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/hall-of-monuments/
Just type your character name, and you get a list of items/pets/minipets/titles you have earned for GW2. In practice though, all the items are starting equipment. They say they'll give you items to upgrade the stats later, probably through the system they already described earlier, where you combine the stats of a new armor/weapon with the look of an old one, in case you liked the way the old armor looked better. So it won't give you a gameplay edge.
There's actually a chance GW1 might be revitalized a little bit now that this calculator is up, and everyone can see how many rewards they earned and exactly what they need to get more rewards. I've earned only 15 points, but I think I can get to 25 before GW2 comes out, and I do plan to give it a shot (after I'm done with Civ 5
). If more people reason this way, there might be a little bit more players online again.
And of course GW2 isn't out yet, and it's very dangerous to assume things based on the marketing statements and demo, but it DOES look like a big improvement. I'll definately transfer, but of course I've already played GW1 extensively, so I like the idea of something new. If you're not sick of GW1 and don't mind playing solo, you could stick to GW1. But I wouldn't recommend it.
Edit: Woops, someone beat me to the link.
