I still don't get how ArenaNet are able to maintain servers, develop new content, etc for over 2.5 years after people paid $50-60 once for it. And then have crazy sales giving it away for $10 like this. It's just one step away from giving away HUNDREDS of hours of content for free.

The game has a cash shop, but it's hardly tempting to buy anything from there. I think I've bought maybe a total of ~1000 gems ($10?) for some fancy armor skins and been using that ever since.

Off-note, I resubbed to WoW when Oceanic servers finally became available. After a 3+ year break I found myself horribly missing WoW's endgame raiding, gear progression and UI customization :S

bare in mind I played and ended up not liking GW2

yeah, $10 is totally worth it, it's notta bad game, there's at least a lot of things to do and explore.

but there's just things about it that rubbed me wrong.

also yes as the other guy said Charr FTW
When was the last time you played it? They have changed the game systems a lot since launch.
I stopped just before the update to the wardrobe system, that made it the rather awesome thing it is now, I approve of that.

But the things that ended up turning me off to the game aren't ones that can be fixed

Specifically, the questing system and the way extra skill points and vistas and other such points of interest are handled.
The way questing is handled, IE new area now here a bunch of new stuff to do and places to visit, for me, made actually detracted from the experience. Whats more, the fact that quests where acquired and completed with out me ever seeing the NPC I'm helping stopped making the quests fun to do after awhile, and started making them feel like a chore and eventually left me just not caring bad stuff was happening to the world because I never saw the people I was supposed to be helping. Then there's the bizarre difficulty spikes for 'story quests' that seemed to almost require you to be over leveled and over geared to finish.

the fact that all the extra stuff is just there, on the map I found so very boring after awhile. Wheres the fun in exploring if I already know where everything is? seem counter productive to make a big world to wander around in, place things that reward the player for exploring then tell the player exactly where that stuff is., that and the 15-25 makings on the map i found annoying.

I'd make mention of the combat system, but that's unfair to GW2. I play Tera and Vindictus, so kinda spoiled in terms of combat mechanics.

I last played it during the.....what was it? Some kind of event? The Queen's Revel or something? Where the Queen of Kyrta and the humans was having a celebration and they were introducing these new azura-designed robo soldiers?

Its changed quite a bit since then. That was the start of the living world season 1. They revamped a lot of game systems and streamlined things a good amount.

On a side note, is there any way to play this with a controller?
Yes, although I personally prefer to play with the mouse and keyboard, I do know people that use an xbox controller to play.
There are multiple configurations in this thread:
