Guild Wars 2 - Gamescom 2011 Video Thread

Well it looks Gamescom 2011, in Cologne Germany, has been in full swing this week and a lot of new info and great new videos on Guild Wars 2 have been coming out about this highly anticipated MMORPG.

So here's a thread where I've compiled the most noteworthy GW2 videos that came out and I divided them into PvE and PvP.
(Make sure you watch the ESL Match between the devs and a German guild).

Those are the important videos. I'd only heard of Totalbiscuit before, and usually in comparison to Yahtzee, but he really seems to enjoy the game and share that enjoyment. Gives ya kind of a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Thanks for all the videos, they are all definately worth watching if you want a peek at the game.

The first ones I saw were TB's WTF is videos and they basically convinced me to get the game when it comes out.

Yeah I played a ton of GW and I can't wait to play a ton of GW2. Well I guess I can wait considering i've been waiting for years already.

PS: OP bumping isn't allowed in this forum, and a triple post could easily get you in trouble. Watch that, i'd hate to see you get in trouble for trying to showoff cool games.

Oh, so what profession did you play and did you try out the PvP. If so, how was it?

So has anything actually been said about the Guilds in Guild Wars 2? I know they've been explaining the PvP process and referring to 'groups' but I don't think they've actually acknowledged Guilds. Without them the whole idea kind of slumps.

Last year Human Necromancer. Was a bit dissapointing. It felt as if the necro was quite weak, not as strong as an ele but not very special either. Being able to use an axe as a weapon and then having different axe-related skills was...weird. But I think once you played the game for some time (or in other words, more than 40 minuts in the starting area) the necro might become more entertaining, too.

This time around, I played as warrior charr in Singleplayer. It was basicly what you see in "WTF is Guild Wars 2? Part 1 (PvE)". I also played as Sylvari Engineer in Multiplayer (which seemed to me like quite an oxmoron) and that felt...weird again. While playing GW2 I had a weird feeling overall.
Mostly because it does not feel like the Guild Wars we're used to know. As weird as that might sound but the multiplayer reminded me off TeamFortress 2 a bit, just with "skills". I think this is mostly because of the way you can dodge and what not. I was jumping around and jumping backward to dodge a charging warrior.

But I'm not saying that it's a bad game or that it's not fun. Hell, it's the absolut opposit and I can't wait to really play it at home. But don't expect a Guild Wars from Guild Wars 2 but expect something completly different. It's nothing like GW1, they only share the setting and artstyle.
But as I said, once you are a bit familiar with the game (and I think I start to become familiar after ~3 hours of playing) you get a feeling of what kind of gameplay is requisted by GW2. I can't say if it's "better" or "worse". I would even say that the discussions of that kind, which will inevitably follow, are askew since you can't compare them. It's as if you would argue if World of Warcraft or Half Life 2 is the better game.

In conclusion: Be aware that everything changed. But don't be afraid of this change.

And that's what I like about it. That it's nothing like the original Guild Wars, which have have no intention of ever playing. The main reason why I excited for GW2 is not only the lack of a monthly subscription but the combat and how my skill will determine if I hit the play or whether they hit me and not some Random no. Generator (no %33 chance to Block).

So yeah, I glad that Guild Wars 2 is nothing like Guild Wars and I hope it will do well in become hugely successful.

the TotalBiscuit ones are definitely the best ones though, I love his enthusiasm and I can tell he "gets" it

hoping for a q2-q3 release next year but the next big reveal should be the last class, for which I'm very impatient. praying for Mesmer but over time I've become much more open to it being something else.
