Whatever, just wash your hands.
As anyone who plays Guild Wars 2 knows, the game is currently going through season 2 of its living story content and the latest content patch appears to end with a cinematic teasing an expansion or at least a very large content patch in the future.

Warning, rather major spoilers for the end of season 2.

I'd imagine it's likely a full blown expansion, given that NCSoft apparently trademarked the name, but I'm not going to entirely discount the idea of it being an expansion a la Guild Wars Beyond. I think the deciding factor between the two possibilities will be whether or not the new content will include new professions and/or races. Either of the two would put the ball much more thoroughly in the 'expansion' court.

Just finished the episode, and yeah, that seems to very heavily suggest an expansion pack.

Where it takes place isn't too clear, though... does the Maguuma Jungle offer enough space? A number of the Series 2 episodes (particularly the last one) showed us Crystal Desert/ Elonian stuff, it's worth noting.

I am not fully fooled by Anet just yet (still playing the game since launch with over 20k achivemtn points). I mean it does heavily look like it could be an expansion but I ain't convince just yet. We will have to wait 2 weeks (24th) from the Pax convention since they are annoucing something there.

If it is a expansion, it better be a real expansion like Faction, Nightfall or Eye of the North as in actual new stuff like several new maps (with quests), armours, skills (I this point I don't see why they haven't made new skills to used other than balance issue), pvp etc and not this half arse grind and achivements hunt to get the new stuff.

Heck it will make my day if they even added a new race (to replace the traitor Sylvari) and professions (like Assassain, Ritualist, Dervish or Paragon) if it is an expansion!

On the plus side, I imagine that we'll have a definitive answer at PAX South on the 24th.

Might want to spoiler the last sentence. (> ~~)>

On topic: I hope they add a new race and heavy profession. There is 3 light armor(elementalists, necromancer, mesmer), 3 medium(thief, engineer, ranger) but only 2 heavies(guardian and warrior).

I wish they could use the Assassin or ritualist, but the thief covers the assassins role, and the ritualist, monk, dervirsih is covered by the guardian. There is the paragons, but they were supposedly wiped out when Joko took over Elona.

I couldn't really think of a new class that has it's own theme that is not covered. I mean the classes are suppose to be semi inspired by the God's in the game. They could do something on Kormir, but i feel those were the paragons already. They could always revamp them though.

The Assassin has kind of had its niche filled by the Thief, don't you think?

Paragons were never popular. Ritualist seems possible.

I had fun leveling in Guild Wars, and the combat is probably the best in any MMO, but I never really got into any of the endgame content, and I never finished the story. I should probably do that at some point, because it is just kinda sitting there.

Also the Guardian was noted by the devs to have drawn heavily from the monk and paragon classes, both mechanically and lore-wise, so their niche is already largely filled. Ritualist, as you note, does seem more probable. I wouldn't completely count Dervish out either, but I see that as notably more questionable. Also on the questionable end of the scale is that they might take the opportunity to incorporate some ideas that they scrapped with Guild Wars: Utopia (which they dropped and adapted into Eye of the North), such as the Summoner and Chronomancer, with the former likely being far more likely than the latter for mechanical reasons.

Would be incredible if they did. If so, I hope they do as they did when Factions and Nightfall introduced new classes, and give us an extra character slot along with it.

Mechanically, the Ritualist has had some of his niches filled in a roundabout way. The Engie's turrets fill the role of the Ritualist's stationary spirits (apart from the "on death" ones, like Life and Destruction), but there's still a great deal to work with-- weapon spells, ashes, all that jazz. I loved Ritualists, and they had such a unique style to them, quite apart even from the other spellcasters.

I remember reading on their blog way back when GW2 was still being developed that Rits and Dervs wouldn't be included because of the disappearance of the gods. They lost their tether to the spirits and thus lost their powers. I'm really banking on this expansion to rekindle my love for Tyria, it's been too long since I last played GW2.

I'm glad this game might be getting an expansion because this game desperately needs one, as its PvP community is nearly dead. I played the game quite a bit for its PvP for nearly a year, but the post-launch support for that area was pretty lackluster. PvE was just too simple to keep my interested.

I'll keep an eye on it though.

True. The spirit weapons would also have taken a major hit in their original form due to the game all but eschewing traditional parties, and Guardians again counting the reimagined variant amongst its skillset. And as freaper noted, there's a pretty decent lore reason for the art to have become scarce in-universe. That said, I'm pretty sure I heard Rytlock in the trailer, and his excursion in the Mists might very well open that possibility up again.

Did you not watched the OP trailer?
If it really is an expansion and adding in a new race, I calling Tengu since it seen right that they get involved now (they guard their door from Lion Arch but when Scarlet attacked the city, they went back inside and attack anyone who came near it.)

I didn't mean reusing the old profession, well ok I kinda did but I mean adding a new profession regardless if it's from GW1 or competely new.

Nothing they can do to make me love it like GW1. Sometimes I regret having these nostalgia episodes, but it is how it is. I wish more people still played GW1.
Maybe some new end-game would make me play GW2 again.

I keep forgetting I own GW2 and like four max levels.
I should patch it back up sometime.

While I've been out of the game for months, I really don't understand the level of anticipation toward an expansion pack, especially from that trailer.

The trailer includes:
>Trahearne (one of the most hated characters that took over the personal story)
>Destiny's Edge, with Caithe lecturing (again)
>A dragon. (shocking)
>Moar epic battles/world on fire
>Other long-running (and dull) living story characters
>Tyria is in danger, trusted friends become enemies, yadda yadda

I know it's cynical, but anyone who has followed the game (and hype train) should long ago have learned to not create your own hype, let alone ride the train when we're told it's on the way.

Let's be clear about what an "expansion" is:
-Permanent new, replayable content
-New game features and/or activities
-World expansion
-New playability (e.g. race, profession)

If people seriously get that vibe from this trailer and are pumping themselves up, I'll feel no pity when they're disappointed. The devs themselves shunned the expansion model explicitly for a "living story", and new professions would violate the hell out of their core philosophy and their early development findings that couldn't squeeze more than 7-8 unique professions into the game (ranger, in particular, almost didn't make it). There's literally no point to an assassin (thief) or ritualist (guardian/elementalist/mesmer) other than to do similar things with different fireworks.

I'll believe in an expansion when they announce an expansion.
