From ArenaNet's own blog [http://www.arena.net/blog/dragon] comes the most desired info for Guild Wars 2. A release date time frame and Beta info.

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we?re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we?ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we?ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.
So for those of you who are eagerly awaiting Guild Wars 2 you've now got a time frame to save up all your vacation days for.

Can't wait. Just heard about this. GW2 imo will usher in a new era of MMO, or at least push it forward then more recent mmo's.

Old Republic will keep me busy long into the year...so I don't particularly care how long it takes.

Still, Guild Wars 2 is a must buy game for me this year. It seems like they'll be mixing up the formula, which is something I'm hyped for.

Can't wait, it's been a while since I've been this excited for an MMO. It's one of my most anticipated games for 2012.

Does anyone know if players will have to be in groups to do quests or will players be able to solo most of the quests?

I am excited, it may be the first MMORPG that I stick with after WOW, Champions Online, Everquest 2, and Global Agenda. Not one had what I was looking for.

I've never been excited for an mmo before, but this is turning out to be a very promising game. Sucks I only have a shitty laptop, but I'll make do because I am totally getting this.

There is no quests... There is dynamic events which don't require parties to do. Players could see a place being attacked, and they all head over there, and while not being in a party they will all get the reward for doing their part.

A few small updates, from Community Manager Martin Kerstein to Guild Wars 2 Guru [http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/welcome-year-dragon-t26134.html]:

Ok, to clarify a couple of points:

We purposely didn't use the term "Open Beta", we mentioned Beta Events. To some people Open Beta means unlimited access to the game and everybody on the interwebs can play it. This is not what we will do.

We will do Beta Weekend Events. Those of you who played Guild Wars might already be familiar with the concept. It means that many of you (like the blogpost says) will get a chance to participate in specific Events, but access won?t be unlimited ? there will be some kind of selection criteria and the beta period will usually start on a Friday and end on the following Sunday.

I hope this helps.
Martin Kerstein said:
In general people: Just purge the term "Open Beta" from your brain. We are not using that terminology as it is a wrong one for what we are doing (see my earlier posting).

It is really simple: We are currently in Closed Beta. And then there will be Beta Events.
And once we are ready to talk about specifics, we will also tell you about how to get in etc.

I really really appreciate all your excitement, trust me, I myself had goosebumps when we pushed the blog live last night - But there is no additional information I can share with you apart from my clarifications here and what was said on the blog:

So stay tuned to our official Guild Wars 2 website, our Facebook page, and this blog for more information about how to participate in an upcoming beta event.

Thanks for the information.

From what I read it sounds like it is shaping up to be a very good game. I have the habit of playing an MMO like a single player game instead of an MMO. I won't get into a group or party unless I really need the help.

As long as it's post 2004, it should be able to play it. While the graphics are better then GW1 by a long shot. They did say the system requirements will be similar.

While I am dissapointed that it won't be out in Q1 (Spring) that was mention on Wiki but none the less I am excited for this just as long I'm able to get a place in the open Beta.
From the sound of it, I guessing the game would be out in the Summer or at least around this September (I hoped).

Well if the Beta tests go well in the spring, then Summer could be a very good possibility. Which imo would be the best time for GW2 as it would allow a lot of people more free time. :D

Yeah the laptop is 2010 or 09 I think. It can play the Witcher 2 on Medium with slightly choppy gameplay. It's a really bad gaming laptop though because all games lag on it. Even ones from the 90s. It's just really not cut out for it.
