Okay, time to shift gears a bit...

In the wake of lots [http://twitter.com/guildwars2] of information [http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/294500/Some-impressions-from-the-Comic-Con.html] surfacing about the various classes, in-game functions, etc. I've decided to just let that simmer for a bit and talk a little more fluff.

Recently, there was a ton of stuff about dyes [http://www.arena.net/blog/live-and-let-dye-kristen-perry-on-the-gw2-dye-system] and other cosmetic options. That got me thinking... We know very little about the character customization other than "it is extensive" and will have "hundreds or thousands of options". But what about more specific details?

Take hair and skins for example. Will hair be as simple and straightforward as it has been, or will it also have multiple color channels, i.e. the ability to create a unique look or nonstandard style (who doesn't want rainbow Mohawk)? Will Charr even have hair styles (horn styles?), or can can they have more unique fur options? Will skins all be various fleshtones, or can we do some crazy body art?

Good stuff to think about while we're digesting current info and eagerly awaiting more.

Charr... dye...

Are you speculating that I can make a pink Charr? You better not be lying. I want to cut a swath of destruction and doom, dead bodies will follow my wake and I will rise atop a cliff in my glorious pink form! All will know and fear Charr Pinkerton!

I'm thinking of a monk/dervish combo thing. Smithing magic and some kind of magical support. It's mostly because of this [http://www.arena.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/LightArmor_Theme3.jpg] that I make this assumption.
...Honestly? I thought it was meant to be light armour not 'all but naked'. Yawn. Total yawn.

I will be crushed if they don't add a mesmer or something similar to the game. They already took away my dedicated healer, and with greater focus on tactics in PVE, it'd be kind of stupid not to have a character who is geared toward debuffing and caster control.

Your going to judge the game on that? Really?

Nope, I'm going to judge that specific light armour design on that. I'm actually looking forward to GW2, but shit like that gnaws away little by little into my excitement. They promise originality with one hand, and give the boring, boring, boring battle-bikini with the other. Honestly, any armour designer who comes up with that should be shot and then sacked for crimes against creativity. I can't design good armour, so here's tits to distract you!

Why not? There are White Charr in the book. (although they are said to be extremely rare) We'll just have to wait and see what they do with it.

PS: For the record: yes, I'm totally making that up. That's why it's "speculation" not "information". heh. and it would be totally awesome.

With the relative drought of information, it's time for more rampant speculation.

What are some questions you'd like to ask the devs? ("when is it coming out?" or "what is the next class?" gets you disqualified. heh) Lore, Mechanics, Trivia, whatever you want.

A few of my questions:
How long-lived are Centaurs? We know that it is significantly longer than human lifespan. According to The Movement of the World [http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Movement_of_the_World], Ventari was already noted as an elderly centaur, and he outlived Ronan by many, many years (about 100 years after the events of Nightfall). Which leads to my next question...

What is the possibility of certain Heroes might show up in GW2? That's right, Zhed Shadowhoof is much younger than Ventari, and according to his late-game dialogues, he may be (have been?) willing to become a successor to Ventari. I want to know what happened with him. Along the same line of thought, what happened to Razah? Technically, he (it?) isn't really corporeal, so he can't die without extraordinary means. I don't expect to see any other GW1 heroes (at least alive) except maybe MOX. Being a machine, MOX probably won't function that long without some kind of crazy upgrades or something.

So, I've got a question that I figure the kind people in this thread might be able to answer.
I've been looking at Guild Wars 2 a little, and it has piqued my interest. Is it worth getting into the original beforehand to get a sense of the world and the history?
I tried a little bit of it when it first came out, but I never really got into it.

I have to admit I was only dimly excited by GW2, but looking through all these blog posts, I am impressed by the graphics and the promises of customization. All Guild Wars lacks is an identity of it's own to seperate itself from Genero WoW clone #52, and hopefully this can be delivered.

I think compared to the original they are going to make it more wowish. When first released Gw was emphasised as pvp game but as time went on they realised that pve is where the money is. GW2 is just going to be WoW for those on a budget. I expect them to release a eye of the north style expansion every 6 months or so in the mid price bracket and there to be microtransactions so you end paying in the same order of magnitude as wow subscription over a year. I think this time they will be more open to 3rd party pvp tournaments.

I hope Mesmers will still be in, one of the best professions in the game to play. I have high hopes for this. Been playing for 5 years on and off but I've always enjoyed playing it. I just hope they make PvE worth doing because as much as I loved the PvP the PvE aspect was pretty forgettable.

Well, yes and no. There is an incredibly rich lore surrounding Guild Wars (from all five angles), much of which can be experienced through the various wiki pages [http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page] (linked to the main page to avoid spoilers).

Is there awesome stuff (lore, etc.) in GW1 that is totally worth checking out beforehand? Absolutely.

Are you required to actually play GW1 to experience it? No, but I think it's worth it anyway.

PS. I also recommend picking up the books Ghosts of Ascalon [http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-Ascalon-Matt-Forbeck/dp/1416589473/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1292852820&sr=8-12] and the upcoming Edge of Destiny [http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-J-Robert-King/dp/1416589600/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1292852820&sr=8-5]. They'll tell you everything you need (or wanted) to know about GW2 lore. (a third book is also in production, but has no official title or release date at the time of posting).
