I have had Guild Wars II for a month and I have been having a blast. Of the classes and races in the game I have found the Mesmer, Guardian,Thief as the best classes and the Chaar and the Norn as the best races. I would like to hear your own experiences and favorites.

My Sylvari warrior has been my "main", i guess, as much as i dislike using those weird MMO terms. He's my only character at level 80 at the moment. But I've made a ton of other characters, and i'm thinking my Norn Ranger may be my favorite class and race to play. I absolutely love the Norn zones, and they feel absolutely immense even compared to the large size of the other zones in the game. And the Ranger class is a ton of fun on its own, and hunting for new pets to tame is pretty addictive. I like using the shortbow over the longbow, as well, though I have each set to my weapon slots, so switching between them in a fight can be pretty effective.

I've also been playing as a Human Guardian, though I'm not too sure if I will continue with it. I love the abilities Guardians have with the shield, but I think it just comes down to playing so much of the game as a Warrior, that now I want to try the other professions.

Also, I very much loved Thief, so much fun to play, but i 100% sucked at it and could barely survive a 1-on-1 fight. Maybe i'll try it again one day.

i wanted to like mesmer so much but i just couldnt get used to it. i loved the thief too but anytime i had to fight multiple enemies at once i would get completely destroyed. for class id say guardian or ranger is probably my favorite. as far as race, definitely either sylvari or norn. i like the look of sylvari the most but i like the lore of the norn better

I started as a human guardian. It's my "main," and, Similarly, my only lv80. I feel incredibly powerful when I play as him, easily switching between damage dealing behemoth to invincible healer in a pinch. I only have one alternate at the moment, a ranger. I absolutely love the way she fights. Whereas the guardian feels stronger, and i will always choose him over my ranger in a knock-out, deag-out fight, the ranger is just 10x more fun to play. As far as races go, they're both humans. I plan to try out sylvari soon, because I think they are gorgeous, and have a great lore about them. I tried norn, but I can't stand to play as them.

Now let me clarify, I have adored the norn people and culture since they were introduced in EOTN. Admittedly, I had the biggest crush on Jora, but the way they've grown as a people has really disappointed me. I feel they've lost a lot of their culture, instead opting for drunken fighters who prefer the smell of their farts a little too much. I really wanted to like them, but they spend so much time bragging about how great their newest feat will be and how amazing their legend is, that it almost feels like they're trying to convince themselves.

All that being said, I LOVE having a norn on my team. It feels way badass to have one of those hulking champions smashing the enemies alongside me. Like I said, I absolutely love the way the norn used to be, and when I fight alongside one of the mountainous players, I imagine that's how they still are... I just can't stand playing them.

As an added aside, does anyone else think that the female norn sounds a lot like Mulan when she was pretending to be Ping?

No worries mate, I for one love to hear the reasoning of the choices people make so continue on if you wish.

Assassin, all the other classes felt boring with their cooldowns and immovility; that said it's a little more challenging in PvE and WvW. Also, there are no thieves in GW2, only assassins!!

Warrior is technically the best class. Most survivable and also has the highest DPS.

Also human is best for optimal camera functionality with jumping puzzles etc.

I've got one of each class except for engineer, which I just can't stand playing for whatever reason. Ever since BWE1 when I experimented for something like 50-60 hours on different classes, I decided on the necromancer. This is in part because I absolutely loved playing necromancer in gw1, and in part because the necromancer's mechanics are vastly different than all the other ones. I also chose my main, as well as my mesmer and guardian, to be Asura. This is because Asura are awesome, hilarious, and have the best (imo) animations of all the races. You can really tell that a lot of effort was put into creating them, whereas other races (I'm looking at you Norn) seem like they weren't fleshed out very well. As such, I do not have a Norn character. My others are a mix of the remaining three races: Charr thief, Sylvari warrior, Human elementalist. Oh and back on the subject of necromancers, you never die!

I played Assassin in the first game. I freaking loved that guy. When I booted up the sequel for the first time, I couldn't wait to return to the welcoming weight of my daggers. As I stared at the classes though, I couldn't help but feel a pang of betrayal as my pointer hovered over the thief. I may one day continue the tale of my nefarious assassin anti-hero, but it felt wrong to make my main.

I had a friend tell me that Engineer Asura's are the best jumpers, mainly because of the engineer's jump shot and the asura's having comically over sized feet, making it easier to see where they're placed, with respect to the edges.

Its got to be the Necromancer for me, just abilities this class has been given is endlessly fun for me to activate! As for races I prefer playing as a straight up Human. Haven't really looked into any of the other races fully yet honestly, just having too much fun running around as my current character is all. :)

I got bored of gw2 incredibly fast. I loved the customization and the exploration, but the dev team was so focused on working on pvp they didn't even notice that instances were an absolute nightmare. I can't think of one person who can say they actually enjoy the dungeons in Guild wars 2, simply because most enemies can 2 shot you while having an massive health pool. I feel like the dungeons in gw2 were actually designed with the holy trinity of Tank/Healer/Dps in mind yet the game itself boasts that not having it is actually one of its strong suits if that makes sense at all. While I am sure late game with a squad of geared 80's this wouldn't be an issue, anything else is just painful to watch and even more so to attempt playing. I recall one time I had a level 60 warrior join my group for ascalonian catacombs (a low level instance)only to get completely wrecked just like the rest of the group during the fights with mobs. In my opinion, getting to the bossfight of a dungeon should not be the part where your group let out a sigh of relief because it got easier.

Also what happened to the good ol' day from the original guild wars where skills were different in PvE and PvP in order to balance play for both? They really nerfed greatsword guardians to hell when they changed the cooldown on their symbol, they said it was only an issue in PvP, yet PvE players suffered because of it.

Necro asyura; i love being a midget.. with pets! Kind of annoying how horribly underpowered necros are, and how pets are completely unviable in pvp, but glass cannon with staff build i win pretty much every 1v1 and the high range spells make staying on the edge of large encounters easy :D

Havent done much pve tho D:

Well... There's my Norn Thief whom I very much enjoyed leveling to 80 with, swapped my builds around a few times and generally had fun with (It was my first level 80)

My Norn Warrior is also pretty fun, not as interesting as my thief but fun in that "Seriously this class is so much more powerful than my Thief in every way" which always amuses me since people tend to think that Thieves are completely OP due to getting destroyed by them in WvWvW.

My current character I'm leveling up (Also my funnest) is my Norn Engineer, I've tested a few builds and have found one that suits me well, I ended up using a similar build to a popular one (10/30/0/0/30) but altered the traits and gear somewhat to suit my style. It shows promise as having higher burst than either my Thief and Warrior (Even though those 2 classes are considered strong with OP burst while Engineer is considered complete crap by everyone including the Devs) with hefty amounts of conditions allowing for sustained damage, that also goes through Toughness, Protection and Weakness.

I've also been doing some theorycrafting with my Engineer on the GW2 forums, trying to decide which weapon sigils would be the best for DPS, including single target and multi-target fighting which has been fun.

I've tried all class and Guardian is my favorite. My Norn Guardian shout build crits like a lunatic and just can't be killed. It's just constantly healing itself. The more people around (enemies and allies) the more indestructible my char becones. I love it. The only downside is that Guardian ranged damage is shit. :p

Ele and Mesmer are great classes as well, especially in WvW. I use my ele in dungeons a lot, always good to have a lot of AoE on your side. My mesmer, like my guardian, is pretty indestructible.
