Death note is really good for making people understand that anime isn't just pokémon/cartoon porn.
I would think that Claymore would be better, but the reality is that even admitting watching anime is an invitation for pre judgement. I'm not particularly close to any of my friends, they are tools, I don't have a strong enough reason to expose something like a guilty pleasure to them.

In order to convince someone of anime's decency, you must first convince them to watch anime. I cannot be arsed to make that effort.

"Hahaha social dignity, i'm suprized I still have some left."
"Anime is my same secret no one knows about and never will, sometimes I get the beginning or ending theme song of one stuck in my head and hum it."
"Would sing it but its not in English!"

"Two of said songs did that..

*snip*

"Death note of course, when ever I hear this I want to punch toddlers."

*snip*

"From spice and wolf, this song makes me believe in true love." <3
I am such a deep, emotional man :/

"There are more... ALOT more so I just pick two."
I am a different person outside of my solitude, and have a façade of dignity - naturally the real me is completely lacking in the dignity (and indeed sanity) department, but depending on who I'm talking to I change.

That being said, I can't help but get some of those tunes stuck in my head:

(skip to about 1 min if you just want to hear the song (this particular vid isn't a good representation of claymore's awesomeness, the anime is much better than displayed.)

And ofc, like you, there are a lot more, I just had these to hand.

I was thinking about reading them. Are they worth it?

OT: I guess staying up late. Everything I do is much better when I think I should be asleep. As long as O have nothing to do the following day anyway.
Short answer: yes.

If you're interested in complex plots, incredibly well developed characters and an intelligence that keeps you working for your answers, read them.

Although, Claymore is worth a look too =D
"Wow there were soo many qoutes I can't tell who put those awesome videos up!"

Sometimes when I'm feeling particularly down, I like to watch Caramelldansen... V_V *blushes and hangs head in shame*
Here it is, if you dare...
I just can't watch the video without falling off my chair laughing... ^^

Other than that, I don't think I have any guilty pleasures.
I love that song (and I've checked out some of their other music as well)

OT: My guilty pleasures would probably be that I love to dance when I'm alone (and sing for that matter). I really enjoy playing games like Dance Dance Revolution and Harvest Moon...
Other than that, I'm pretty sure that people around me know that I watch MASSIVE amounts of Anime of all kinds.

Porn is NOT something to feel guilty about. One of my guilty pleasures is one-upping people. I know that's a terrible douchebag behavior, and I really need to get over it.

I'm studying Film Production at one of the most prestigious independent Art Institutes in the country, but I collect and absolutely adore shitty fantasy B-movies, more often than not about Dragons. Dragon Quest, that's a good one. And Dragon Wars! A bit unorthodox... but there's a nice bit of abhorrent CGI. Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God...? Fucking Masterpiece.

I should also mention that I have seen every single episode of Gilmore Girls.

But sure, if you aren't open with your friends about being an anime-watcher
Ahahahaha, the implied emphasis on 'anime-watcher' made me smile - this is exactly the reason it's in the guilty pleasures section of my life, to hyphenate the words into a branding, and put it into that sentence; you would think that we were talking about being a necrophiliac.
You mean there's a difference? I've been lied to! :p

It's true, but I don't really understand why. I suppose part of the problem (if not the whole problem, a la naruto) is to do with the image it has.

And, more relevantly to this, I think a large portion of its social taboo-ness comes from the name itself. 'Anime', 'Ann-Ihm-A'. It sounds sort of...

I don't know. I suppose [sub](coming from a point of view that is not my own, but an interpretation of that of others')[/sub] gay.
There's just something about the French accent on the 'e' that really robs the word of any gravitas it might have once had.

It could just be me, again, of course, but there is a reason that people market things with choice words.

Ah... It matters little, these are just the mad musings of someone who's not quite thinking straight, and really is mentally asleep.
Actually, in my language, the "animé" pronunciation fits very well in with the rest of the language, and sounds good; but for no good reason a lot of my friends insist on putting the emphasis on the 'i'. It sounds horrible.

Edit: Ah-neem-eh (Where the 'a' is pronounced like the 'a' in "car")

That would be me, and nice - I thought they sounded similar.

I have to say, though, in terms of being an earworm, this takes the biscuit, despite being found on the forums and not from a video:

I hated it to being with, but started enjoying it eventually, much to the abhorrence of the part of me which pretends to genuinely have dignity left.

[sub]...I suppose you could equate it to some sort of strange ear-rape.[/sub]

Although I wouldn't, for mental image prevention purposes.

Nobody said there wasn't a difference in the term, just that it's expected that you refer to them with different wording. It wasn't a lie, you just hadn't been told the whole truth =)

Again, these are just my musing on the subject, but my now partially sentient brain is telling me it could be a contributor the anime's bad image.

Maybe it needs a new name.

SUGGESTIONS.

Edit: this is going far too off topic. It's new thread time. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.252766-Anime-needs-a-new-name]

Judging people. It seems to be an automatic function for me. Now I find myself constantly reminding myself NOT to judge people. I had to remind myself at least 20 times today. I get quite a mental workout on the highway.

Watching this constantly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0wEYtmmuFQ

And all the usual Anime stuff thats already been mentioned although I did watch both seasons of Higurashi and the OVA in a week...Closely followed by Umineko which took about half a week to finish. Even gave up the touch of a woman to finish it (and proud of it)
