But yeah, I'm eager to learn of the motive.
People posted his Facebook profile which was covered in anti-cop groups. The most notable was Cop Block which started as a group denouncing examples of police brutality and abuse of power. However, the people on the page started to confuse the original message with 'All cops are the worst people and they deserve to die". It's the popular theory that he was a that type of individual. What made him snap though is still a mystery.

Mental illness won't be a good defence since he had illegal firearms in Canada, he didn't shoot anyone randomly and he gave up saying "I'm done". The first two shows that he planned this and the latter is a mystery. If he was doing the latter to prove the point of the Cop Block page which would be police brutality, he just got proven wrong since he wasn't hit or killed during the arrest.

It's been in the news constantly here. This kind of thing doesn't happen often in Canada, the RCMP generally don't get shot dead on the job so when it does happen EVERYONE hears about it. I'm glad he was caught alive.

Isn't " risk of death" part of the job description? They knew what they were getting into when you become a law enforcement officer. And i got no love for cops, i'm just glad the shooter isn't black.

Stupid, senseless and tragic.

I'm finding myself surprised that they ended up getting him alive. So often this sort of story ends up with the killer either killing themselves or doing something that forces law enforcement to do it for them. I'm sure they won't be satisfactory ones, but maybe this means we'll actually get some answers from the killer about why he did what he did.

I definitely agree with tragic, but I'm a bit wary of "senseless".

Yeah, hopefully something can be learnt from this. I've been a bit wary of labelling this sort of thing as "senseless" ever since it was pointed out to me how this is so often done by people wanting to avoid looking at causes and trying for a solution.

Indeed. To me, it sounds like a guy who became very disgruntled with a lot of the horrible shit you hear police doing and getting away with and just snapped in retaliation. It ain't right, of course, but it most definitely does not sound senseless to me.

That's a very valid point. On reflection, I suppose I meant it more as in the deaths and injuries of the RCMP officers was senseless. I'm certain that there very much was some sort of sense, no matter how twisted, in Bourque's mind regarding the scenario that played out. Based on his Facebook history he definitely had a history of issues with authority and law enforcement, and combine that with his upbringing and you can already start to see maybe just a little of what he was thinking even if we don't (and may never know) what set him off.

I think the answer you're looking for is because "they're bat shit crazy". I don't think the reason for it matters much, if it's because they are crazy then people will just focus on "WE NEED MORE GUN CONTROL" and if it's for some political reason he'll just be called a terrorist.

Also I'd agree that it's senseless but comparitively speaking it's relatively mediocre, boring even.
