GoIO is a steampunk Airship combat game, right now it has 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 maps. while playing you have 4 people on a ship and you each play either the Captain, who flies the ship and coordinates the crew, the engineer who keeps everything working or the gunner who brings different type of ammo to the match. its HEAVILY team work oriented, the crew has to work with each other to keep a ship alive, and the captain has to work with the other captain(s) to coordinate movements.

GoIO is quite the unique game, with a mostly fantastic community, and an always active and open Dev team. the game is deceptivly simple at first, but as you play you realise how deep and teamwork oriented everything is. i also love that the game caters to pretty much every possible play style in a ship to ship combat game, want to rush in and ram things to splinters? you can do it, want to run in, pop a ballon or set some fires and run away to safety? check, want to play it safe and snipe from across the map, you can do that too. you can even just launch a bunch of mines and try to trick the enemy into flying into them. anything and everything can be effective as long as you have good teamwork, and with a surprisingly civil community thats not a problem.

A few months ago i saw some YouTube videos of this game, and i fell in love, i DLed steam and bought it and now i have close to 500 hours in it. so i was wondering if anyone else has given it a try and if anyone wants to check it out, its on sale right now. 5.09 USD for one copy or four for 10.19 USD

A friend of my gifted it to me a few months ago :D I'm absolutely in love with the game, it's provided me with hours of enjoyment and it's essentially the game I've been waiting for all my life

I CANNOT WAIT FOR ADVENTURE MODE.

Played it since it a friend was really into it a while back.

Isn't my cuppa tea and I think the clothes in the item store is a bit overpriced (then again I think this of cosmetic items in general so GoI isn't the worst offender here, screw valve in this regard) which is a shame as looking stylish adds to this game's atmosphere, it's lame if the crew all looks the same :p

It's good at what it does and fills its niche, so in this regard GoI is pretty cool and wished it was more successful then it actually was.

That said I'm a bit confused by the community being amazing. Granted I only have 15 hours clocked in, but my experience was I was being called noob and shouted at a lot, so ended up just playing mechanic most of the time as I felt I had less opportunity to screw up in that role, just run around and go fix things, overcharge the important bits of the ship and there, job done. Even my friend got raged at a lot (despite playing and enjoying the game a lot more then me) since she had a suboptimal ship setup, a galleon with mostly medium/long range weapons and a flamer at the back.

Maybe there is scope for a variety of tactics, but my experience was if you played in a manner that wasn't considered optimum like my friend did, you will get insulted by rude people just like any other online game, tis a curse :(

well, i did say "mostly" there are some who take their gaming too seriously, but i find that they are a smaller number in this game compared to others, for every person who yells at a newer player for not bringing the right tools, there are 2-3 who'll more politely try to help out. the issue is that at higher levels of play if one person on a ship is just doing their own thing without heed of what the captain is telling them to do, its a death sentence.

what really confuses me about your post is your Galleon experience, there is only a handful of guns a Galleon can use, so i can make some assumptions about how it was set up, and i can't think of a combination that would be particularly ineffective, mid to long range galleons are pretty good, the only thing i can think of is that some people just dislike certain ships because they don't allow for their own play style.

I pre-ordered it.

Then they added a cash shop.

Then I canceled my pre-order.
Did you even bother to look at what the "Cash shop" was? All it is is clothes for your character. All the ships are free. All the weapons are free.
That's how it is now, but what about later? Call me cynical, but cash shops have this odd habit of starting out benign, then becoming cancerous as things go bad/the company learns of the money they can make.

That might be more accurate actually, since the vibe I got of those mouthy players was it was better to have speedy ships with close range weapons, so the galleon got a disproportionate amount of hate from them.

Also since most of my post was negative (edgy?) despite on the whole enjoying the game otherwise wouldn't have played it for 10 hours+, i'll share some of my more positive experiences: 4v4s on that sand dune map was great fun, the storm and occasional visibility issues made for some tense action whilst the desert was a rather pretty backdrop to fight over.

I'm actually excited that it's coming to PS4. That should be a real interesting addition to the system's lineup. Nothing I've heard indicates that there will be an Xbox One version of said game. I did see Angry Joe's video of him playing with several other prominent Youtubers like Total Biscuit and Dodger, which made it look rather fun.

Who cares? I'm paying money for some indie game, I'm not going to encourage any nickle and dimming from them.

So, I cancelled my pre-order and told them why.

If they wanted my money, shouldn't have added it.

If you want to lose out on a good game over some small issue, then go ahead. I will be over here having fun.
I played the beta.

Seemed okay. Not worth the price + Cash shop though.
