You really, really need to have played the first game to get a handle on the storyline. All of your points are explained that way.

Compared to Other MMO's, GW2 isn't really standard, since it changes almost everything about MMO's which may or may not have been really explored in the video:hazabaza1 said:Both this and SWToR look pretty standard. Not really excited about either.
Though I'll prolly get GW2 if it gets cheaper because of the whole no subscription thing. Enjoyed the first one.
First off, All you need to do to learn about the norn in play Eye of the north 10mins in. Swear to god, if you didn't buy eye of the north, sorry, but doesn't change the fact that the back story has been established.CJ1145 said:And how could I have possibly known that without playing through a massive chunk of Guild Wars? I played the first one, and even with all the time I devoted to it I still never got that far in.Snowalker said:Part one, regardless of how you feel, cause you clearly believe its ripping off the "Great Hunt" The Norn backstory and culture has been established since 2007, however you go about it, they aren't ripping off KotORO.
That's not fair, that's extortion. It's like saying if I want to drive the newest Trailblazer I must first purchase and drive the previous three models. The experience should be self-contained enough that a newcomer shouldn't' have to touch any other materials to have a full grasp on what is going on and what the universe is like. And demo or not, so far the intro cinematic just isn't doing that. Let's be honest, how much are they really going to change in that sequence by the time of release? They'd need to add a whole lot to give you the whole picture.Snowalker said:And to your second point. Alright, you can say that, as long as KotORO doesn't require me to have watched the movies and played the games to understand the game aswell. If you want to fully understand everything, especially a universe thats been building over the years, you need to experience certain things, and honestly thats only fair.
Didn't it make it clear that they get honor by killing things and that eventually they plan to take on a dragon?INeedAName said:As I've said earlier, while newcomers can't expect to understand all the nuances and themes of the story right of the bat, the game should early on explain to them what sort of a world they're in, how the people are and what the conflict is in order to create immersion.Snowalker said:Part one, regardless of how you feel, cause you clearly believe its ripping off the "Great Hunt" The Norn backstory and culture has been established since 2007, however you go about it, they aren't ripping off KotORO.CJ1145 said:While your edit does explain that your stance and I am thus not necessarily speaking towards you in disagreement, I do hope that GW2 does not plan for me to have to read books and play the previous game just to know what is going on.WinkyTheGreat said:Going to try to address a few things.
There is a lack of background info, but there is a lot of stuff from the previous game and the books that have been coming out that isn't explained in the demo.
EDIT: I'm sure there will be more in the actual game. The demo is really more to show off gameplay and such

And to add, the game DOES have a 2 in it's name. That's like jumping into, say, Mass Effect 3 without having played the others and complaining that you don't know why Shepard is so important. Well, you WOULD if you played the other games. It's a sequel thing. And I guarantee you that the beginning quests for any race will establish the history more then a cutscene. MMOs tend to go easy on that area, since watching is nowhere near as fun as playing.Snowalker said:First off, All you need to do to learn about the norn in play Eye of the north 10mins in. Second, Buying a car is different than playing a game. A car doesn't create a universe, a car is a mode of transportation. But, say if you were to compare it to a book... Pick up Gobblet of Fire and see if you completely understand everything by the end, you probably won't, but you'll get the gist. And you're right, they probably won't change the intro, but to me the intro was fine. But then again, I've actually know a thing or two about the world in which its set. However, I watch that great hunt video you mentioned, and I have to say, I was kinda lost. I mean, I get the whole bounty hunter thing, but who are the medalorians, and why do they care if theres a "best" bounty hunter? See, if we start this, it'll go on forever. To fully understand a game thats part of an existing universe, you have know about the other parts of the universe.
There will be builds with all the skills they'll be implementing, I'm sure. They'll just be for an Elementalist, not an Elementalist/Mesmer.scw55 said:Kilo24 said:I believe they (unfortunately) scrapped the secondary professions. Aww, part of the enjoyment I still get from Guild Wars 1 is having sponteinious ideas for character builds in PvP. Glad still no fee.
I am still going to get it, because I get to play as a Charr![]()
Dynamic events, multiple pvp modes including competitive pvp that gives every participant the same gear, no monthly fees, very high production quality, the removal of the "holy trinity", an even leveling curve and good character customization in game or at its creation.INeedAName said:Why is it the second coming of MMOs? I would assume it has more behind it than being better than SWTOR (in your opinion)?saruman31 said:It really is the second coming of MMOs. TOR has crappy animations and its star wars(with all the horrible outdated costume design and everything). Not even Bioware can make me like it.
No, as if it wasn't absolutely obvious, despite what they may say..this game is for fans of the Guild wars universe, and it's too busy being awesome to sit down and explain whats been happening for the last 6 years.INeedAName said:I have no idea what a norn is. From what I could gather they are humans, or some sort of human-esque race, who was chased away by some ice dragon and who appreciate the sport of hunting. That's pretty much it. I also don't know anything about the world or the place I start in. A little context would be nice.

Oh I don't think anyone will-Savber said:*waiting for an all-out battle between TOR and GW2 to happen*
-or maybe they will. Your powers of clairvoyance are mighty impressive gentlemen.Hectix777 said:TOR looks like it's the Clone Wars cartoon series, GW2 looks like sweet Mary mother of god look at that oops i gotta change my pants PIE! This guy is obviously some dude that loves TOR so much that he's gonna try bringing GW2 down on the Escapist. Lemme ask you this, what is TOR gonna do that WoW can't do? And the thing about combat, dude, that game hasn't even hit beta testing yet, I'm sure this isn't even the alpha build for it! Let me restate this: The video currently posted on this forum is not classified as a beta build or an alpha build for the video game Guild Wars 2. That makes me want to buy it all the more since this isn't even the finished product and it already looks pretty dang good. So combat's not up to par yet, they'll work this out. What you don't understand is that ANet has a pretty good following and GW2 is attracting a lot of attention, even on networks like G4, Penny Arcade, PC Gamer, and Gameinformer. And if the combat is still a problem they'll fix it, ANet is known for treating their fans right(I was a little upset at the reformation of the Dervish though). My point is this:That's your opinion (on a game build that has yet to reach beta testing, and this is mine( on a game that HAS NOT REACHED BETA TESTING). You with me here?
