So basically I've been back on CoD4 recently and Jumped into a free for all game where I immediately got a Kill and received a generous -12323441324 (or something fucking stupid like that) and was about to turn off my console to avoid the De-rank When boom the hosts quits therefore I'm now 5th Prestige level 1 requiring an impossible amount of XP to level up, needless to say I'm Pissed Iv'e never once hacked a game at all and had no intention of Thanks a bunch you Eternal Virgin, basement dwelling Ass Holes. >.<

So anyway fellow escapist's what "experiences" have you had with Hackers and how do you think Microsoft(or Sony and Steam for that matter) should go about dealing with these waste's of cartilage?

Edit1 And yes that's Negative ><
The only cheating I've experienced is on MW2 on PS3. Aimbots. There was even a URL at the top of the screen flashing red and white. I promptly quit, and tried to submit a complaint to Activision, but apparently the PSN ID didn't exist, even though I could tell who was using it. PSN had no record of the ID either, so I just gave up (cause I couldn't remember the exact ID) and never picked up MW2 again.

If people want to cheat like that, I simply won't play. Plain and simple. It ruins the game for me, but it saves me hours of frustration dealing with the pricks and it's one less person they can cheat against.
The ID you saw probably doesn't exist. What a lot of hackers do to prevent from being caught is they use a legitimate PSN ID, but then they hack the game and make it so that it displays a fake ID when in game (this is also how many hackers are able to make their ID something vulgar).

I've had similar rank things happen in CoD to myself as well, but they generally reset on their own with no actual noticeable effect so I chalked it up to a server bug at the time. Most hacked servers in MW2 I found were done in a way that was potentially fun for everyone, (i.e. randomized weapons everytime you died, seriously it was a blast), so I guess I got off lucky. Although L4D is a whole different story; seems like once out of every 5 games you'll get either a griefer or a hacker that either wipes your team or crashes the game. :/

Would be nice if they were dealt with better...or at all. Seriously. All they have to do is check the leaderboards for MW2 and they will thin out the hackers by an insane amount. If I could ask Infinity Ward one qeustion, is how the fuck do they not do anything about such blatant hacking!?

I have never cheated on XBL.. Though I have been accused of it. Most notably when I played a team match on Halo 3 and my entire team quit a minute into the game, and I still won.. But yeah, I never cheat when I'm playing with other people, just takes all the fun out of it..

The first time I tried Monday Night Combat on XBL our team lost thanks to a hacker. The guy had multiple hacks running, including an aimbot, infinite fuel for the Gunner's jetpack, and an infinite juice meter. He spent most of the round hovering above our spawn mowing us down if we so much as poked our head outside.

Fortunately I haven't run across any other hacking experiences on XBL.

I think policies like resetting stats is fine, since most hackers do their dirty deed to boost their stats in the first place. I just play games to have fun, not obsess over stats that are little more than meaningless e-peen contests.

It pisses me off quite a bit when people who not only blatantly cheat (aimbots and wallhacks) but also admit to doing so, laughing the entire time and having fun at our expense, get NOTHING done to them. There are a few people I know of who not only hack and announce that they do, they hack in every game they play and not once have they ever been punished. Ever. In any way.

It makes me think "why should I even bother paying for your games if you do nothing to stop people from cheating me out of the experience?"

Never seen an actual hacker on LIVE so Microsoft must be doing their job properly.
Throw in MW2, it's rampant. I traded the game out of sheer anger, and kept World at War.

Seen quite a few different hackers in TF2, using abilities ranging from invulnerability, infinite ammo, phasing through the terrain while moving at an enhanced speed, and creating new objects in game (to block off areas non-cheaters can't phase through, like say, at the entrance to the respawn rooms). Very annoying when that happens, as it takes all the fun out of the game, which is a shame, because it's one of the few FPS & multiplayer games I actually enjoy.

And while I haven't hacked or cheated in any other ways in multiplayer game, I had been accused once before when playing Brutal Legend. Some asshole reported me for cheating in my match against him by saying that I purposely disconnected mid-match to prevent him from winning (when it was towards the beginning and no clear winner could be seen yet) when it was just my crappy dorm wi-fi losing connection. Sadly, his complaint got through and I had a month ban from the PSN.

I have to take back my statement. Been playing some CoD4 and just....wow. I had no idea what "bad" hacking was. What the fuck!? How is Xbox worse than PC?

The only ones I've run into on Xbox LIVE were back when I still had MW2. Ran into maybe 2 or 3 straight up modded lobbies but into probably 20 times more people exploiting in game glitches and stuff that didn't need external modding. Except for colored clan tags and hacked names. I saw a hell of lot of those but I guess I got lucky that none of them decided to run with an aimbot as well.

But sometimes there were so many lobbies of glitch exploiters it was TF2 console version bad.

Microsoft's actually really good at slaming out the hackers. They normally just go with the Ban Hammer so as to not get the huge ability to get the negative press from someone jumping on the opertunity to accuse the gameing industry of stealing peoples rights by banning them (I.E. fox news attacking it whenever they can)

Those. . . really don't sound like hacks at all. That sounds extremely like admin abuse. Unless you were playing on console, hacks can not give someone invulnerability, ability to fly, noclipping, and free placement of sentry guns.

OT: Hands down, Call of Duty hackers are the most destructive. Most of the time, any given player will have an enemy with 360 degrees of their field of view, and coupled with the ability to shoot through walls, hackers are very effective. That and the fact that the Call of Duty games are notoriously terribly coded, hackers can go many steps further in gaining the advantage they simply couldn't have in a game like Counter-Strike or Battlefield.

Hackers are perfectly natural, though. As with any form of competition, there will always be cheaters, no way around it. We just have to deal with it, and move on. It's tragic what happened to you, OP, but just know you aren't alone.

Hacking is more of a Playstation kind of thing although I have seen two or three hackers in my gaming career but all it amounts to is more than likely leaderboard fixing.

I've once seen a couple of games in which it was like you were on the moon!
And it was in slow motion.
Plus you could kill your own team and get points and killstreaks, it was hilarious.

You want REALLY bad hacking? Try playing Combat Arms, an F2P MMOFPS run by Nexon. You're almost bound to get a hacker every other game (whether every time they swing their knife they get a kill, or every time they shoot a sniper rifle they get a headshot even while facing a wall) and absolutely nothing is done about it. I even had a game where after we kicked the guy, everyone in the room reported him, and I got him in a match a few minutes later and he was still hacking.

It gets even worse, where if you start getting a good amount of kills, people start bitching, 'Ooohh, he's hacking! He has a higher amount of kills than everyone else, but mainly me! Waah! Waaaaaah! *Sucks their little baby thumb*'. You can't do anything in that game without someone bitching about it and complaining. I got hit with a 1 month ban because one guy reported me about 5 times after each game because I kept getting more than 10 kills over him. And he bitched about it every time, just because someone was doing it. And I tried playing a few days ago, and bam, there he was, bitching his mouth off to everyone who would listen, and boy did he make sure I got reported. And I never said a thing. That is just how bad Nexon lets it's servers get on that game.

(Note to Admins: If you want me to censor the post or something, please tell me. I'd like to make sure my forum health meter stays as low as it is.)

Sucks, don't it. Nothing ruins a fun game faster than "oh damn it, such and such is using an aimbot." Then your whole team gets killed and they say something idiotic like "u mad bro. har har virgin nerds" and I ge tthe urge to punch them, lol.

To me the blame for the OP's complaint lies on the developer for coming up with an idiotic security model. Without dedicated servers, allowing the host to totally hack is completely unavoidable, and I guess it makes sense that the host would be responsible for awarding XP, but you'd think the game would be a bit suspicious when the host tries to award you a ridiculous amount of XP (or, indeed, negative XP).
