I have Half life 2 and have installed it, multiple times, and have encountered problems. I once got an error about modules, then something about platforms not loading. Basically, when I start up half life 2 from steam the little pop up comes saying it's loading/starting up the game. Then it disappears.

At this point I expect the screen to go black then the game to start up. Nothing happens though. I try starting it again and it either tells me I have the game already running or it repeats what happened.

Also, now my account will not work. It seems my account has vanish. Which means if I want to try half life 2 again I have to buy another copy-

It's odd that my account is gone, but the product key for my copy of Half life 2 is still being used by my account.

I've contacted Steam many times and all their solutions do not work and I tried other forums. Hoping this one will have an answer to why Half Life 2 will not work and why my account doesn't seem to exist- but it does.

I use hotmail if that is important.

Thank you for anything you (The posters) can tell me.

I find this highly irregular. What do you mean vanished? Is your name saved to login or do you type it in manually?

Also, if it fails to properly start you will likely have to terminate the process yourself for it to run in the future.

Might I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Steam? It's inconvient I know, but it might solve your problem.

I have tried many times. It hasn't fixed it. Thanks though.

By disappear I mean that it says my account or login info is incorrect or sometimes when I try the password retrieval it says it does not exist. But I know that the information I enter is correct. Also, my product key is assigned to that "non"-existent account so I can't register it on a new steam account I made.

I'm confused on what you mean by terminating the process- use the task manager? How would it run if I terminated it- do you mean when it says I already have HL2 running, but can't play it?

I read awhile back that Steam always had problems with retail versions of Half-Life 2, but I think that was all sorted out..Maybe not though.

Is your computer a gaming one? I mean, could it run Half-Life well enough?

So I take it then you went through the steps for username and password retrieval/reset? I know for a while I had some error where I would need to reset my password for it to run.

And yes the task manager. HL2.exe. Windows will occasionally start program processes without fully starting the program. This will prevent future instances of it working, as Windows recognizes it as already running. Commonly had it happen with older version of Firefox.
