Every time someone mentions half life 3 on the internet, gabe deletes one of its source code files.

But it's pretty cool they got bought lunch by him.
Every time it is mentioned Valve gets a day of free press, the second they announce HL3/HL2: Ep3 that free press stops happening.

This just in: Half Life fans say "Shut up and take my money now, or I'm going to protest", Valve responds with maniacal laughing at successful mind-control. Details at 11.

I don't know what they think they're doing but demanding that Valve release a game early is like demanding the Earths pin faster so it'll be Christmas earlier. Valve does not work that way, there entire development cycle is center around releasing it only when they are happy with it, you can't just demand that they change it since that would destroy their entire development theory and inevitable ruin the game anyways. It'd be like taking months to paint the Mona Lisa half way and then slapping the rest together to get it out the door tomorrow. They are demand something that can't happen unless they are willing to accept and inferior product which they aren't. This is silly.
I completely agree with what you wrote but I think those two fans don't want them to rush the game but rather to actually start talking about it. If you think about it, they haven't even really acknowledged its existence even if it's obvious that they'll make one. Whenever an interviewer asks someone from Valve about the next hl game, they just reply that they have nothing to say about it.
I'd rather not play Half-Life at all instead of playing some rushed version of the game that Valve just quickly made to please the fans but I too wish for some form of communication, which has been quite scarce in the case of the next Half-Life game.

Two guys picket Valve with cardboard signs demanding the release of HL2Ep3.

Gabe Newell comes out and buys them lunch.

...

I don't know whether to grin or roll my eyes. I suppose I can always do both at the same time.

Here's how it's going to happen:

Valve will never announce the official release of Half Life Ep 3 (or just 3, I don't know what everybody is going with these days). They will release it with no advertising, no pre-release parties, no pre-order bonuses. Nothing.

Just one day, you will wake up and see Half Life episode 3 on steam.

And on that day, the internet will explode. Explode with the hype of unseen forces.

And Valve will be kings.

That's how I picture it will happen, except without the exploding part, it will just make the steam servers too busy to handle all the downloads.

Knowing how Valve works, lots of their stuff is not set in stone. At any given point they could decide "it sucks" throw everything out and start over. Lots of their work really is only temporary or could easily be replaced or change. One of the reason they don't want to say anything is most likely because if they announce something then they later decide to change it and they don't want to send the word out and get people married to the idea only for them to say "yeah, we decided not to do that." I'd like them to be more transparent too but I can see them being private just to make their lives easier. (or maybe they are hiding the fact that they lost of their code behind the fridge, I dunno).

Well, I'm sure they're just having a bit of fun at Valve's expense. I don't seriously think they'll maintain a long protest. It's just a joke.

Well, it won't do anything. But you have to admit, Gabe probably knows the best places for lunch.

This is why I like Gabe. He might possibly buy me lunch. >.> I'm all for that.

It would be even better if they denied ever releasing it.

"Oh that? That is just a mistake on the steam servers, we'll fix it soon-ish"

Also, I love how 2 days after the fans started picketing Valve announced CS:GO.

Oh Gabe you massive troll.

We waited 14 years for Duke Nukem Forever and 11 years for Deus Ex .... people need to learn some patience.
Indeed. I'm not going to say that in spite of these picketers Half Life 2 Episode 3 should come out in 20 years, but patience is something there is no harm in having.

How about "because we want to see the fucking GAME!"? It's been almost 4 years since Episode 2 was released (and ended on yet ANOTHER fucking cliffhanger) and since that time Valve have released NOTHING about any possible follow-up, whether Episode 3 or a full-blown Half-Life 3. The most they've released have been three vague pieces of concept art and some vague comments about possibly introducing a hearing-impaired NPC into the game. That is the absolute TOTAL of what they have to show for the last 4 years work. So much for episodic gaming.

Seriously, Half-Life is one of my most beloved game series of all time for one simple reason: because it's one of the BEST. I don't want to see it rushed either, but there's a limit to how much you can delay a game without testing your player bases' patience- ESPECIALLY if you're pumping out heaps of other games (L4D series, Portal 2) in the meantime. It's Half-Life and its world-busting success that MADE Valve as a games company, they practically OWE it to us to at least show us some sign they're doing something productive with our most beloved property. I'm less worried about the game becoming a replica of CoD and more worried about it coming to resemble Duke Nukem Forever instead (massively hyped and anticipated, ludicrously delayed, eventually disappointing).

you just made gabe delete 100 codes from the game.(if there's any)

I understand your point, but i prefer to wait and get a HL2 quality game instead of rushing them and getting DN:F quality game.
