I honestly don't think they will do a Episode 3, I think they'll just come out with Half-Life 3 show casing the new and improved source engine.

Although if they did do this how would they start off with the iconic "not doing anything and walking around bits" like they had in the first two games at the beginning.

Edit: I was reading the comment s in the link, and someone pointed out a hidden face, it's the freakin' G-Man!! Now I'm super psyched.
The Half-Life episodic trilogy and Half-Life 3 are the same thing - Gabe Newell has said this before - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i_valve_060606
Fine half life 4 then it still doesn't change my initial statement.

Edit: and that article was from 2006, so most likely for continuities sake, they'll probably go with half life 3 anyways.

They're merging the Half-Life and Portal universes with Portal 2 and Half-Life 3, and both games will run on Source Engine 2!

...What, a guy can dream, can't he? Anyways, if Valve is teasing something, it can only mean good things (unless its L4D3). Besides, it has to be big if they canceled their Portal 2 event.
What do you think will happen if it is L4D3? Will the mob uses torches, pichforks or perhaps a combination of the two.
I would hope a mob of angry Valve fanboys could do better than torches and pitchforks. I imagine they'd use a gravity gun to pick up Gabe Newell and then drop him into an infinite Portal loop.
Dude....

that's harsh.
Not really. Cancelling a Portal 2 event for another L4D game? Inexcusable. Besides, Gabe will pull out his own Portal gun and escape from the loop. Then the mob will come at him with torches and pitchforks.

Aside from the Source Engine 2 bit....they've sorta-kinda already done that...well, at least implied it. The Borealis (ship seen at end of Half-Life 2 Ep. 2) has an Aperture Laboratories logo on the side. Other implications from GLaDOS' final rants are that the outside world is not somewhere you want to be...speculative leaps in that regard are easy to make.

Whatever it is, I just want some closure more than anything. That Ep. 2 cliffhanger has had waaaay too long now to grow and fester in my imagination. More Half-Life? Yes, please!

More Portal? Yes, please!

But, more-or-less OT: If they announced another game combo-pack, that would be the most epic maneuver ever.

Are they really going to be continuing Half-Life after Episode 3? As much as I love the series, I really think that Episode 3 should be the end - it's presumably going to wrap up the conflict between the resistance and the Combine, and thus the only real way to continue the series would be to do what they did with Half-Life 2: introduce a rapid shift in setting, and then slowly introduce a new backstory. Although that worked amazingly well in HL2, to have it happen again would only serve to make the series stale and tedious.
